***January 2016 SAT (US Only) Thread***

Everyone have a site/link to additional practice tests? I’ve used up most of the released ones but I need something to keep my brain fresh :frowning:

I’ve been scoring600-670 on math
570-630 writing
450-520 reading
I hate CR

My goal is a 1900, but I think it won’t happen, Is the tests you guys took similar to the BB tests

@jruesmith7 You’ve finished all of the tests from 2005-2015? Wow, that’s around 30 tests, that’s impressive.

@savambi I always used to make careless mistakes, so I kept scoring around the 600-650 range (now I score 750+). Then, I would circle what the question explicitly asked for, along with any important info. Once you do all that, it is imperative that you write ALL your steps and do a majority of the calculations on your calculator. Just make sure you input the correct numbers as you go. I think the number one reason why we make careless mistakes is that we are in a hurry due to the 25 minute time-frame, so we try to finish every question as fast as we can because we are convinced we do not have enough time. To solve this “conundrum,” you are going to need to do A LOT of practice. I started by doing math sections without timing myself, but now I usually finish with six minutes to spare. Therefore, if you use all the preceding techniques you should get an 800 if you know your stuff!

i have terrible luck.

i usually miss 0-1 in wr, but i screwed up in october. when i finally got the consistent -1wr in dec, my proctor gave us 21min on the essay and i got an 8. i got 750
although i got 800 math in oct and i never miss anything, in dec i screwed up math really badly and missed 2, causing me to get a 750. that was the first time i ever missed any math questions.
i miss 3-5 on cr, but in oct, i missed 7. in dec, i missed 3, but i got screwed over by the curve, causing me to get a 760, 1 mistake from an 800. its usually 770-780 for -3cr.
i slept for 3 hrs the night before for both tests, even though i changed my sleep schedule a month early to sleep 8-9hrs a day. i usually sleep 7-9 hrs.

i have all the potential to get a 2300, it’s just im never in the right conditions and luck hates me. whenever i get a consistent score in just ONE section, i screw up on all the other ones.

2300 is meaningless, @thetex. You’re at 750+ in all three sections–the top tier–so you should walk away from the test and do something more meaningful (and interesting!) with your time. Well done.

@thetex are you superscoring or no?

@BethanyD exactly

@marvin100 exactly

eh superscore is 2320
760 wr (8th grade december) 800 math (10th grade october) and 760 cr (10th grade december)

but single sitting is 2260 in last december: 750wr (8e, -1) 750m (-2) 760 cr (-3).

i’m really frustrated that i got 760 writing in 8th but scored only 750 writing twice in 10th. writing has been my best section, and i usually get 800s on practice tests, but i screw up big time on the real test.
i missed only 1 writing in december, but the proctor gave us only 21 MINUTES for the essay so i got an 8 :frowning:

@thetex - there is no difference between a 760 and an 800. Your frustration is misplaced.

@thetex If I were you I won’t do the SAT again… you’ve a 2300+ superscore and a 2200+ single-sitting score!! I’m sure you wouldn’t be rejected at a college because you missed one critical reading question :stuck_out_tongue: I also used to be frustrated about my 700s in math, but when I started not caring about that, I got an 800 xD don’t be too concerned! Your scores are already AMAZING (that’s what I tell myself to relax)

(I have a 2270 superscore (with reading considerably lower), 2200 single-sitting score)

@thetex Do you mainly care about colleges that superscore or single score? Either way, you should be fine without retaking. I’m in almost the exact same boat as you (2240 single sitting/2330 superscore) and I had no regrets in skipping the January SAT.

@marvin100 Do you think not reaching 750+ in math (specifically 730) would be a problem if I did well on the other sections?

No, not a “problem.” 750+ is the ideal goal, the best possible result, for each section, but many, many students at even the super-selective colleges slot just under that range in one or more sections. In the case of math, it is especially unimportant if you’ve demonstrated advanced math skills in other ways, like the Math Level 2 subject test and/or Calculus AP (or, of course, AMC/AIME/USAMO).

I earned a 2280 Single Sitting (CR:720 M:760 W:800) and (780 CR:) 2340 Superscore…but honestly anything above 2250 is good enough to not retake the test.

Times running out and I’m still goofing up on the critical reading section…is it common knowledge to know what “afforded by” means? And to know that “base” means “without moral principles”? I feel like there’s something random on every CR test -_-.

Senior here hoping USC will accept this SAT :frowning:

At this point I would be ecstatic with a 760 or higher on both Math and CR.

Last week before the SATs! What are you guys doing to prepare? :smiley:
