Hello everyone, I will be participating in the January 26th administration of the SAT. I created this thread so we can discuss what others are doing to prepare, the test itself, etc.

So what are you doing to prepare?

What score are you going for?

Misc.

I will start, I have been going to tutoring for the SAT. Two hours a week for Critical Reading and Writing and one hour for the math. By doing this, I complete appx. one practice test per week. Every student wishing to apply to the Ivies in my county have attended these private tutoring sessions. They increase student’s scores by 300 on average.

Hopefully I will score in the 2000’s but I would like to be in the 2200+ range.

I’m a junior right now, so the January SAT will be my first time taking the SAT. I’m hoping for a 2000+, I would be ecstatic with a 2100+, and pretty annoyed if it was lower than my PSAT score (1930). I’d also be happy with a score in the mid to low 700s, so I wouldn’t have to worry about it as much the next time I take the SAT.

I got the Blue Book for Christmas, so I’ll definitely be doing two or three practice tests per week for the next month. When I took my PSAT, my math score was slightly higher than the others, but none of the scores were drastically different. (CR was 62, Math was 67, and W was 64).

I am a bit scared as well because one of the summer programs I am applying to requires a stellar SAT score. If I cannot increase it to at least 2000 my hopes of being accepted will go down the drain.

What is everyone doing to prepare for the essay?

Aww im glad someone started this thread!! Im taking the sat for the 4th, yes 4th, time…this is for more scholarship consideration. I just need to get my CR or M score up by 20 points so I have Cracking the SAT and my tutor and I will be going over it this month…im feeling positive about this!!

I’m feeling positive as well! I am confident that I was just having a bad day my first go around, I did after all quit half way through the math section. But excuses aside, I have prepped since September and I am constantly scoring in the 700’s on my math practice tests.

Trying to get 2360+. If I superscored my practice tests I would get 2360. All of my math errors tend to be silly mistakes, and my writing errors range from 0-5 errors, depending on the test. I torrented about 20 real practice tests hahahaa 2300+ would be enough for me, but 2250+ is okay too. I would be ecstatic if I got a 2400, but it probably won’t happen.

That’s quite impressive @tomatox1! Best of luck to you.

Does anyone else subscribe to the Official SAT Question of the Day? I have the app on my Iphone and I haven’t missed a question for about 7 days.

Just taking practice tests from College Board.
I do really badly on CR Got only 510. English is not my first language though. I came to the US 2.5 years ago.
On math - 710, and writing - 680 (included 10 points for the essay I wrote on the first SAT I took, May 2011). Overall - 1890.
It would be prefect to get 2000+, but realistically it is unlikely to happen…
I am jealous to read that so many people superscore SAT lol Good luck to everyone!

The Critical Reading is where I lack as well. For some reason I cannot stay interested during the passages and do not comprehend them as a result. This forces me to rely heavily on going back and looking for the answer in the passage, killing my time.

how long are ur essays, I don’t think I can write fsast enough and can barely finish a little more than the first pages, but so many people fill up 2 pages. how long to brainstorm and write?

aiming for 2300+. my ACT was almost a 33 (32.25). Science section was the one that killed me, but there’s no science on the SAT whoo! Good luck guys! Oh, and is it easy to get a 12 on the essay if I got a 12 on the ACT essay? (comparable??)

I’m aiming for 2300+, hopefully 2350+ on my SAT…Writing Skills is my weak point. Especially the essay! On the PSAT the writing section was also my worst at 77.

Right now, I’m using the blue book and the vocabulary from the Barron’s Study Guide.
