My son got admitted for January through ED, but it is nonbinding. Anyone have info about the pros and cons of being a Jan at Hamilton? Thanks for your help!
On a curricular level, the drawbacks would be few, in that Hamilton offers a sufficient range of introductory courses in both the fall and spring.
He’ll bleed blue by the end of orientation in August. He should think it over – and congratulations to him, you and the rest of your family!
Hi. You mention that curriculum shouldn’t be a problem but I am wondering about science majors. If she isn’t there in the Fall, she can’t take an intro science class until sophomore year because they are typically year long courses - 101 then 102 with 101 only offered in the Fall. Do you know any Jan admits that have majored in a science?
Thanks
Even for a fall admit who would like to concentrate in a science field, it would be quite possible to wait until sophomore year before taking a major-specific course and still be on track to meet all the requirements for the major. (Since students often enter college undecided, this trajectory would not be particularly uncommon in any event.) This said, several courses that could begin a foundation for a science major would be available at Hamilton in the spring. Along these lines @Randonne, your daughter could choose among (depending on her interests and placement) introduction to computer science, calc 1 or 2, multivariable calculus, linear algebra, statistics, entry-level geosciences and several non-sequential courses in the physics and biology department. Subsequently, for what would only be her second semester, she would be well prepared to begin her sequenced science courses.
