January interviews -- send in BS application personal statements before interview or wait until after?

Hello! I have a few BS interviews scheduled for the first two weeks of January. Should I try to send in my application essays beforehand (on the theory that it will enable the interviewer to know a little more about me) or wait until after so the interview can be more open-ended? Or does it not matter because no one starts reading applications until after the deadline?

It won’t matter. Most (or all) interviewers have not read an applicant’s essays before the interview. Some interviewers only have minimal familiarity with your application and background. Perhaps those interviewers like a more genuine “get to know ya” experience.

I agree with what’s above. Best of luck in your applications!!

After shepherding kids now through approximately 30 BS interviews, I can confirm that exactly 1 had already read the essays. The school had specifically asked on their website for essays to be submitted in advance. (And in case anyone cares, my daughter ended up LOVING that interview because they got past a lot of the basic stuff and got into deeper discussions.)
That said, I agree with all above – app will not be read before the interview.

Wow, thanks so much to you all for sharing your expert advice and experience! Best of luck to everyone!

I agree it doesn’t matter for the interview – but keep in mind that school will be starting again soon, so if it is to YOUR benefit to have these essays done and submitted before you have other responsibilities and time restraints, I would do so.
But as far as giving the interviewer more info to talk about, they most likely won’t see them.
