January SSAT

How was it for everyone? I found the math very tough and challenging. The math was very odd too.....like all of the stuff I reviewed wasnt really on the actual test. No percentage problems.....too much geometry. I also found reading a little bit harder than I expected. Verbal was hard as always, but a little bit better. So feel free to comment. =]

MATH WAS HARD THIS TIME?!!?!?
did you take it in december or earlier? if so, how was it?
im taking it tomorrow

These tests are soo weird.
The first time i took it, the vocab was incredibly easy. The math wasn't hard, but more challenging then expected. Reading was..boring. lol.

The second time, math was easier, vocab was hard, and reading was..interesting..

I took it both in November and December and by far the math has been the hardest...but thats only my opinion. By the way, I'm in Korea so I took it a day earlier. Good luck to all!

thanks! hope you did well
but.. was the math harder than last time?

.... isn't the january test on the 6th?

It is January 6th in Korea. I just took it a few hours ago. From my perceptive, math was the hardest out of all three sections, but once again its just MY perceptive. I'm sure you'll do well don't worry about it.

I just took the test and I found the math section very easy, whereas the vocab part was quite challenging...I don't have anything to compare them to, though, as I've never taken the test before. If it makes any difference, I'm in 9th grade.

reading was crazy... i was 3/4 done with five minutes to go. If the last two sections weren't incredibly easy then I wouldn t have finished

this time, reading-easy (thank god!!!)
Verbal- vocab was easy (i didnt know 2 or 3), but a few analogies were VERY HARD and I was surprised, I usually do good on analogies :(
Math- too easy, but i omitted one.

but people have different perspectives

math - so easy you forget to pay attention.
verbal - most synonyms were very easy, except for 2, which i ommitted. i asked my mom (she reads 3 books a week) what they meant and she only knew one and had absolutely no clue on the one. the analogies were culturally biased as usual, but i didn't omitt any. there might hae been one or
reading - i always think the reading is easy, but when i look back at the answers, some i still wouldn't change (i overanalyze) and others i'm like, "ohh, well.. if you put it THAT way, then okayy..." so who knows.

i got a good essay topic.. well not good, really, but i had the perfect way to describe something mentioned. you think adcoms like creativity and eloquent descriptions in the essay (keep in mind, you only have 25 minutes an no prep or review really). what if you don't finish the last sentence?

did anyone have do the READING about the synonyms in the english language? if so what are the answers to that?

i did that george, please remind me of the questions and I'll try to tell you

blair, concluding is better than having a great essay (although that does help) because they see youve managed your time well and can formulate a complete essay in 25 minutes. you shouldve just wrote anything...even something as bad as "That is why blahblah blahblahblah." to conclude.

blairt, I think that having a strong body and intro of an essay is always good, but as Msu said, finishing is quite important, because part of the test is how well you manage your time. Still, if your essay is truly great, they'll probably not count it against you too much. I'm glad you feel so good about your exams, though. Congrats! :) What was your topic?

woah i found a big grammar mistake in my last post hahaha sorry, and sorry this isnt really relevant either.

pretty, (if your interested) my topic was "Beauty can sometimes be ugly" I think that was a really easy one, im so glad I got it because I wrote about hamlet and........ OMG I JUST REALIZED IVE MADE THE BIGGEST MISTAKE.
I WROTE ABOUT HAMLET AND EXPLAINED ABOUT MACBETH.
STUPID STUPID NERVES
OMGGGGG WHAT SHOULD I DO!?!?!?!?!?

My d took the test in December (scored in the 70's), so she decided to study and retook the test today. In her opinion she felt the test was more difficult versus the December test. She felt the reading comp. was more difficult.

.. maybe i should have taken it in december. but i felt today was much easier than the practice tests...

are the percentiles for that specific test or all ssat (upper level) tests?

Her essay question was "To overcome your fear you must take action".

Aww...MSU, I'm sorry about that. I know what it feels like to realize you've made a silly and possibly big error on an exam. Hopefully the adcom will find it amusing and understand the situation. As long as your essay included strong points (whether they apply to Macbeth or Hamlet) and was well-written, I doubt it will be held much against you. Good luck with that.

oh sorry i didnt think anyone saw that so i posted in in the other one as well
