january test scores

"We recommend students make arrangements to take the required tests well in advance of our application deadlines. It is unlikely that scores from tests taken after our deadlines will arrive in our office in time for our review process. We will certainly review any scores we receive (even if they arrive after the deadline) but we cannot promise to delay the review of an application in anticipation of scores that will arrive at a later date."

i'm confused...most schools with the january 1st deadline accept january sat scores. so would they really not arrive in the office on time? is it worth it to try? i'm considering paying $1000 for a math sat tutor so i can raise my math score from 600 in january. but would i be paying that money for nothing if they won't receive the score?

i would suggest calling the admissions office. more than likely they will say the january will be fine.

ok i hope so! thanks! :)

Darn, I called the admissions office and asked if they accept January test scores, and she flatly said, “No.” But then I’ve heard of some people who have rushed their scores and gotten them to Stanford in time. And then every other school besides Stanford who has a January 1st deadline accepts January scores…So, what’s up? Can anyone clarify? I guess I should trust what the office said, but then some people said they were able to get them there on time, and now I’m just confused.

^i called them too and actually asked about other schools with the january 1st deadline. they said it’s cuz they get 13,000 applicants but…uhh…yale gets like 20,000 so that doesn’t make sense. anyway should i try to retake it and hope they get it on time or just send the sat i already have? sigh

Send the score you already have but still retake, I guess?

well to retake i’d have to dish out 1000 bucks for a math tutor and i don’t really have the money to do that unless i knew for sure it’d make it there on time, and it doesn’t seem like that’s likely, so…:(
