jas0n's Official UCI Q&A Thread

can you bring a graphing calculator tot he chem plac. exam?

Kadya:

Heh...I can double major! Im a monster!

taniuxka20:

Yes. Bring a normal calculator as a backup. You probably wont need it anyway

do you have to have the result of placement test out before you take the orientation?

i'm planning to take one on 25th of july and my SPOP is on 26th of july..

is this ok?

also which english course is easier?

i have three options

Writing 37 – Intensive Writing

Writing 39A – Fundamentals of Composition

Humanities 1A S/A – Humanities Core Course S/A

thanks everyone.

ps: how do i send my AP/IB scores to UCI again?

corporateflea:

You do not need the placement test results before you attend orientation. The easiest route would be taking Writing 39A and slowly progressing in the writing 30 series. Mail your AP/IB scores to the admissions office at UCI.

thanks for your reply jas0n..

in regards to sending the AP/IB score...

when you say mail AP/IB scores..do i send the ones i got from AP/IB organization? or do i have to call the respective office so that they can send the scores from their end?

the testing office has to send a copy themselves. i think it is more cummulative, but you have to let the testing office know to send your scores to the respective school.

jas0n, we all know you are a monster...i mean you have more than 1000 posts.....wierdo....hahaha....and jess, from my point of view, it looks like you are laughing at the person who posted after you since i have it organized to show me the latest first and not last like you and jason...which makes it even more funny

So is it worth it to take Writing 37 over 39a and going through that process?

I am officially a senior member =P.

goober7011:

I say taking writing 37 is worth it. Take it on an easy load (take only 12ish units with writing as one of the classes) and you'll take down two classes at one time.

hey I am planning to double major in Psychology and Bio! you have any comment or advices on the workloads for double majoring, etc? I need to know before I make my final decision! thank! :)

Tetsu:

Double majoring in those two is feasible, but not in any way easy. You'll be working a lot and you must sacrifice some of your college life for it. Also, the benefit of double majoring in those two might not be needed...

thank!! I have decided to only major in Bio! I thought double majoring would impress the graduate admission officers but I guess it is all about GPA huh?

^^^ you could always minor in psychology!

Hi! I applied as Social Science Undeclared and now I'm pretty sure I'm going to major in Psychology. When is the earliest time that I can declare my major and how?

Now if I am sure what courses I am going to take. How can I find out what text books I need to buy?

Tetsu:

It's not all about GPA. There are many other factors involved in graduate admissions.

UCI2011:

You can declare your major over the summer via petitions, after your first quarter via a petition, or before sophomore year after fulfilling requirements to change your major.

UCI Lover:

www.book.uci.edu

go to coursebooks

is it good or bad if I decide to take easy class at the beginning? (am an incoming freshman) I mean like for math instead of math 2a I decide to take 1a or 1b is it a wise decision or what? yeah am lazy...XD

if you dont think you are adequately prepared take the easier class i guess?

ok thank! I guess I will take the easy classes...XD oh btw I already fulfill the Language Other Than English reuirement...but I still want to take Japanese class for fun! how hard or tough is foreign language classes at UCI?

Tetsu:

Remember, you will not be given any credits for taking a math class that you have already cleared.
