What do you reco for freshman year? I would really much rather have an apartment instead.

errisee:

Live in the dorm first year. You can only try dorming for one year in your entire life so take it while you can. You'll have the opportunity to live in apartments for the next 3 years anyway. Unless of course you really need to live alone. Apartments have already filled up sinec all the jrs and srs have been kicked out of on campus housing for the new 2 year freshman housing garuntee so you might have some troubles finding an apartment of your choice.

So i can choose who i room with in my dorm right?>

how do you choose who you wanna room with?

Yes you can choose who you want to be your roomate in your dorm, it is part of the housing application process. Although, I would recommend against it. Although it doesn't always happen, you miss out on an opportunity of making a lifelong friend through your roomate. Something to consider.

Is there anyway incoming freshman could take classes over the summer.. i got a letter from UCSB saying I could.

can freshmen dorm in vista del campo ?

For a freshman, is Mesa or ME closer to the buildings where most of our classes would be? Or would it depend on our respective majors?

jason wassup man.....
got a lil question for u
I got accpeted as an Electrical engineering major ( The Henry Simueli School)
But I want to change my major to either Comp Science or Informatics ( havnt decided which 1 yet) .......They are both offered at Donald Bren School
How hard would it be for me to change my major.......

and 2nd question........I want to transfer UC Berkeley.....would it be super hard for me to transfer from a UC to another UC?
(In your personal opinion is it better to stick around at just 1 college for 4 years...or doesnt really matter?)

thxx a lot for helping all of us out mayne....gluck with ur EE

Selina- yes you can, you should be receiving more info about it in the mail after you send your SIR.

janonymous- Nope.

dirtbags- It's really gonna depend on your major. ME is closer to engineering//Social Science. MC is close to Arts and Humanities.

mj300- It really shouldn't be too hard. A lot of the requirements are the same. UC to UC (esp to Berkeley) is pretty tough. That's not to say it isn't impossible, but it's not something that's in your favor.

so its better to just go to a community college and transfer....?
i read the four year undergrad plan for Comp Science at UC Irvine site
http://www.ics.uci.edu/ugrad/degrees/index.php?track=cs&year=03

a lot of the courses that they take in first 2 years are not even offered at CCs...
would it be better to just go to UCI instead of trying to get into UCB, because even if I do get into UCB, I am not going to be in top students since I will be new there..............
Really confused here..........plz leave a comment

So I picked Premed: Biomedical Engineering in the Samueli School of Engineering for my main major when I applied, but after the year and looking at the sample program, I've become less interested in that subject and would like to change my major to Immunology at the School of Biological Sciences. How hard would that be and how would I go about doing that?

I'm going to be entering as a freshman this fall.

is immunology an impacted major? easy to transfer into? cause it sounds interesting... hmmmmm

criminology.....

OR

immunology....

very interesting indeed

But i have to get friggin accepted first

UCI, why must you make fools of all of us?

WHY?!?!?!?!

Mj300:

Because you are already an electrical engineer I don?t think it?ll be too hard to switch to another major close to it CS or ICS. In reality, you can easily transfer into any major as long as you fulfill the requirements and such. Google the requirements for a major change at UCI for CS. You need like a 3.0 gpa among all your required science/math classes. You?ll be fine. In fact you can change your major by petitioning over the summer. You?ll probably get it since you were accepted into engineering already.

Transfering to UC Berkeley is a very hard question to answer since it all depends on you as a student. First off every UC gives priority to CC students when considering transfer applicants. It?s true a lot of the courses that UCs offer are not offered at CCs since it?s in the engineering sector. What most people do is knock off all GEs and as many pre-reqs as possible before entering a UC. After two years of CC you?ll probably have to stay 3 years at the UC you transfer to unless you jam pack every quarter and summer session. It?s normal to stay a fifth year anyway.

As for the question of whether to do it or not, it depends on you. You can transfer from UCI to UCB but it may be much harder with actual university courses. You?re going to have to look really competitive. If you really want to do it, you should do it. I believe you should do it if you particularly want UCB (to be with a friend or to make yourself happy) or if you like a certain professor or research lab you want to work for. If you just want your bachelor?s degree in compsci then you might as well stay at UCI. UCI has a specialty in CS anyway.

Ddbb:

Google the UCI requirements to change your major to a major in the school of biological sciences. As opposed to engineering, you?ll need about a 2.0 cumulative and a 2.0 in all your required classes. It should be relatively easy to switch your major. In fact you might be able to do it over the summer by petitioning whenever you can. You?ll probably get it since you were originally an engineering major.

GROVER:

Immunology is a major under the School of Biological Sciences at UCI. It may be easier to get into other majors over Bio majors but it?s not necessarily ?impacted.? Criminology may be impacted, though. I?m not too sure about that. It IS the number 2 crimlaw program in the nation.

Here's the website for major change info:

Thanks for answering all our questions, jas0n.

Now the most important questions of all: How often does the UCI bookstore have sales on clothing?

Do students get discounts on laptops from the bookstore?

cbf88

So far there have been 3 sales I've seen. They arrive in this order: move-in sale, halloween, one before winter break?, and valentine's day. The halloween sale is the biggest sale of the year and the bookstore gets SWAMPED.

I don't think students get a discount from the laptops since the bookstore is already made for students. The discount should be already there though. IPods are cheaper at the student store.

i haven't gotten into UCI, but I just want to ask about the internet access.

Do the dorms have a single cat5 cable coming out from the wall for you guys to share or is the whole network on wifi? Or maybe they rent out routers?

Here's to hoping I get in.

accent07:

At all UCs each student has their own wall jack for your cat5 cables. There are wifi hotspots around campus but the entire school is not quite setup with wireless yet.

How do food services work? Can you eat at any of the commons.. or just the ones in your dorms?

You can eat at any commons
