jas0n's Official UCI Q&A Thread

buddy:

There are 2-3 people in one room, 4-12 people in one suite, and 60-90 people in one building. I say building because UCI doesn't run by the hall system. Instead, one entire building is equivalent to one floor/hall in a tall dorm complex at other schools.

BirdKiller:

That schedule is pretty fierce. Stick with it for now and drop accordingly. Laptops are useful if you have a roommate that can't sleep with any light or sound. I don't use my laptop very often, but it has definitely helped my roommate get some shuteye. I'll be using my laptop next year in my living room if I work late so I don't bother my roommate.

Selina:

New only means only new students (freshman or transfers) can register until 24hrs after the last enrollment window.

oh, ok... thanks!

ok jason you did mention that you don't know answer to question concerning financial aid. I wonder how can you ever get by without them. Is your family that rich or do you just happen to garner up a lot of scholarship?
Anyways, I will post the question on here hopefully someone can answer it.
When will I get my cal grant stuff? will I have to pay the 2K on my zotbill before hand then the school will reimburse me later or how does it really work?

sweetdream:

My family is able to support me throughout college. They've done considerable investing for the sole purpose of being able to pay my, and my sister's, tuition as we go through college. Also, they are willing to sell the house or take loans from it to pay for my tuition.

From what I know now after helping my friend with cal grant stuff, you will either get the 2k before the deadline for your tuition (for the first quarter only), or you will have to pay it and get reimbursed later.

ShoeFactory, in high school, I had 3 years of Korean and 1 year of Chinese

ok nevermind birdkiller, was just wondering if you got out of breadth 7B.

Sched looks good.

Heh, even if I could get out of Breadth 7B, I would still have to take Korean 2B and 2C for personal reasons. Although I can perfectly speak, read, and write Korean, my vocabulary in this language is lacking. It's become a barrier between me and my mom who is not fluent in English and doesn't have the interest to.

All the math and writing classes were full, so I took these...

BIO SCI 93

CHEM 1A

PSYCH 7A

SOCIOL (race and ethnicity) 63 .... this class sounds pretty boring.. is it?

does my schedule look ok?

Selina:

It looks fine. Sociology is widely popular and supposed to be one of the easier majors. That class might be interesting. Did you not want to try waitlisting? There is still an entire month before class starts.

I just added myself on the waitlist!

For the orientation, what documents will I NEED to bring?

BirdKiller:

The documents required are listed on the website. I forgot what I brought, sorry. Anyway, I'm off to camping, woot!

BirdKiller: have the stuff they tell you to bring but also bring

-your ID# so you can take your ID picture
-an open mind
-a nice, warm smile

...rofl.

I didn't bring anything... and they didn't ask for anything.

Thanks :)

I actually forgot to bring my transcript and AP/SAT scores, although I can find information for the latter online.

http://www.newstudents.uci.edu/
I was reading the information on bringing a computer/laptop to college..and it said UCI does not support Windows Vista...in what way though? as long as I get on the internet on Vista it is ok...

^^ yea.. I have the same question. I just bought a laptop with windows vista. It would suck if I couldn't get on the internet with it.

BirdKiller: They actually give you a list of all of your AP scores and placement testing results.

I'm a little worried; when can we start buying our books? Will the books used for summer courses be the same as the fall one? Cuz I don't want to wait for the uci website to update their fall material but would rather look on amazon or something in advance.

biomedical engineer

fall quarter: 16 units

bme 1
math 2b
physics 7a
physics 7la
chem 1a

is this too much for a freshmen fall quarter or no?
