jas0n's Official UCI Q&A Thread

if u use wired, do u have to bring ur own wires to connect, like ethernets and stuff?

Yeah. Cat5 I believe.

oh, and make sure you aren't using pirated windows.

Wait.. why no pirated Windows?

they require you to download something called cisco to be on their network.

cisco requires that your windows has every security update.

you can't get the most recent security updates with pirated windows.

so don't try it. or you'll get owned like me since my desktop couldn't go online for a few weeks.

luckily i brought both a laptop and a desktop.

Dang, that sucks. Thanks for the heads up. Is the campus network Linux friendly?

I would assume so. No experience with linux's though.

pirated windows works perfectly if u have the right releases.. xp or vista

no it doesn't.

you're screwed when a new update comes up because cisco will require it and you can't dl it cuz ur pirated.

Are all the beds XL twin? I was at SPOP and forgot to measure, but it didn't feel any longer than normal (i'm short...) I was at Mesa.

does anyone have any insight into the Informatics major? exactly how marketable does it seem? Any information that isnt already stated on the site would be greatly appreciated

hi,
i did not satisfy the writing stuff..
so my webpage says the follwoing..:
1. Writing 39A (Fundamentals of Composition) – Successful completion of this course will satisfy the Entry Level Writing Requirement and earn four units of baccalaureate credit. The class consists of three hours of discussion each week.

Humanities 1A S/A (Humanities Core Course) – Although this course may be taken by any UCI student, it is required for students majoring in the school of Humanities. Since you have not yet satisfied the Entry Level Writing Requirement, you must enroll in one of the S/A sections of Humanities 1A.

are those courses like ESL or somethin like that??

and whats the difference between humanity1a and humanity1a s/a??

thanks in advance...

take writing 39a

forget hum 1a

hey jas0n what courses did u take in your freshman year because I am also majoring in EE? are u on track for finishing in four years? How hard is it to finish in less than four years as a EE major?

Hey Jason,
Does UC Irvine admit based on major? Say I applied to engineering, would they weight my math/science grades? Are some majors more competitive than others?
If yes, would applying undecided be advantageous?
And do you know how competitive the business information management and informatics majors are? Are they impacted?
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer these questions.

yes yes yes yes

i don't advise you apply undecided just to get in. if you wouldn't get in the major of your choice, chances are that you will really struggle in that major. anyways, undecided makes you take dumb seminar classes to waste time.

i don't know about the biz information and informatix majors.

I was wondering is it true that the later the SPOP you sign up the more difficult it is to chose classes or professors?

bookie, you are exactly right.

Ah i see...
I have another question: I am planning to enroll in Chem1A but I don't know which professor I should pick. What's your opinion on the professors for Chem1A? I heard Arasasingham was not that great but I don't know if that is true or not

i looked up arasasingham on rate my professors and it seems like his tests are fair and maybe difficult but he is a good teacher.

i would assume you already did though.
