ShoeFactory: Thanks for the fast response. I was wondering after we register for classes at the SPOP when do we know which books we are going to need for the class? Or when does the Bookstore online show a catalog of coursebooks for Fall 2008?

And oh about the post earlier on SPOP....Do you think as a Biological Science Major - I register for SPOP 5 this year (There are 10 SPOPs total) that I will be able to get all the classes I need and want for this major?

check out reg.uci.edu and click on Schedule of classes. I think bio majors start with bio 93, chem 1A or 1B dependin on your placement test, and a writing class, 39 or hum core. use that site to check how full those classes are. i think its easy to check them out by Department and look em up that way.

Has anyone taken or is going to be taking the Physics 2 placement test at Irvine? If so, do you guys know what's going to be on that test? Mechanics? Electricity, ect? Be more specific too please.

Ah thanks but you know when it saids like enrollment requested right by the waitlisted, does the enrollment requested mean the number people that are enrolling to that class but just haven't been accepted yet (like waiting for the transaction to go through?) Since it seems like the classes are starting to fill up even though it has only been the 2nd SPOP so far...

i took physics 2
its mostly vectors, kinematics, calculus, and some stupid logic problems
btw i was wondering if i can retake a placement test since i didnt do so well on physics 2 and wanna skip to physics 7C -_-

Chickenboi: I believe for the placement testing you can only retake it if it is like a different month
For ex: If you took physics test in June and didn't do too well then you can retake it in July. I think that is how it works

@chickenboi: yea that was to you lol
Ah that's cool you are going to spop 3 i wish i had sign up an earlier spop when I had the chance...but on a page that i was reading earlier they said that for certain spops they didn't have bio majors so now i am going to spop 5 :/

hey can you let me know how registeration of the classes go?

hi
im a chem major and hope to go on to med school someday...
i think my first schedule would be writing 39a,math2a, and chem1a...and i dont know what to take for my fourth class..
i dont wanna be stressed to much since its first quarter....but at the same time i dont wanna feel wasting time...
do you have any suggestion??

physics 7a imo if you really wanna get something done.

not the easiest class, but if you want to go to med school you should be able to handle it lol.

otherwise you can do breadth requirement 4 with some humanities stuff if you don't want a math intensive class, but after all, youre a science major. But if you want, you can take something like art history.

edit: just looked up chem major in the catalogue and apparently you can take physics 2 (whatever that is) if you don't want to take 7a which is harder.

do you think taking 2 science classes is manageable ???
i was thinkin about taking either physics or bio....but i thought i would be really hard...

It's very manageable, but decide on taking it or not depending on how confident you are in your abilities. Most science majors (including I) take two science classes + writing + math during their freshman year.

For sure don't take bio yet. If you want a concentration in biochemistry, you take bio 97, 98, 99 which you can wait til sophomore year to take.

Take physics or a general ed breadth requirement.

What is the difference between H2A Chemistry and Chem1A?
I was looking at a website and it seems like those who are in H2A are more likely to get a better grade compared to Chem 1A -like there is no curve on H2A?

Of the two classes which one would you recommend?

At my SPOP a Staffer recommended me to take the Bio Sci 2A Freshman Seminar which is a Pass/No Pass course. I'm also taking Bio 93, Chem 1A and Writing 39 B. What are the advantages and disadvantages of taking the Freshman Seminar Class or other Pass/No Pass classes?

steggi: Don't take that seminar bio 2A class unless you want to waste your time. There is no advantage for taking that class.

dnduswo: You might want to to be able to go to dances and other formal/semi-formal occasions.

Bookie: I took chem h2a-c. I'm not sure about the grade distribution but I'd say at least 30% of the class gets an A every quarter. There is no curve but this might change depending on the teacher. I still like to think there is a pseudo-curve because your professor might make the next test harder to get a better distribution. Of course, the people in the class will be smarter than those in the 1A-C class so I don't know how you can compare ease. My friends who dropped h2 series said the 1 series was easier (I think). I do advise you to take h2 series unless you suck at chemistry. My best teachers this past year have been honors gen. chem teachers. They really do try to make the lectures very relevant to life and intruiging. Staying the course til' H2C really becomes worth it when you take hgchem with Dr. Shaka (only the best teacher ever). His class is like Chemistry/Life 101 and it is the class I've learned the most from (of any subject). Anyways, HGChem is the best freshman class on campus, but I guess it might be unpleasant if you're bad at chemistry.
