<p>So I'm in this Early College Program where I do credits worth one year in community college as a junior and senior in high school. Then, once we graduate high school, we go to the community college as a sophomore, meaning we'd be able to get classes easier than the rest of my peers. They also guaranteed us admission to any UC we would like to transfer to. However, there were recent news that they were cutting down the budget. Do you think it would still be a good idea for me to go there and transfer? or should i got to ucsb, csulb, or sfsu? please give me advice :)</p>
<p>I see (from your other post) that you already got admission to UCSB. I’d take it – it’s a bird in the hand. My only caution is that since it is a UC, the class sizes will be enormous, and the professors will not be nearly as accessible as in a community college or a Cal State.</p>
<p>Budget cuts are just a fact of life, by the way. A lot of alarmists will parade around campus telling you that the sky is falling, every time there is a budget cut, so get used to it. Don’t sweat the things you have no control over. The worst that will happen is they will jack up your tuition.</p>

<p>I have asked my counselors and any adults in my life and they’re not really telling me what’s best for me… they want me to make my own decision… However, I need to weigh out the differences but I can’t without any knowledge. Please, help asap… :)</p>
<p>I vote UCSB. From what other people are saying on this board, it sounds like students who attend a UC have an edge for med school over CSU students. As far as which med school to attend, save the worrying about that for later.</p>

<p>What year are you right now? Don’t try to plan so far ahead. Plan the next year or so, and were you will do your best. If you are headed for medical school, you will need to e able to handle the challenges at UCSB.</p>

<p>@Shrinkrap : Yeah, it’s because I’m in the Early College Pilot Program. However, the only UC’s it doesn’t apply to is UCB and UCLA. So as of right now, because of the program, I finished all of my credits for my “freshman year in college” and this coming up fall, I would be going in a sophomore. I am a senior in highschool. I’ll be graduating this june. That’s the thing I’m talking about, should I play it safe at csulb or work extra hard at ucsb. I just want what’s best for me… (Btw, I’m going to be majoring in Biochemistry)</p>

<p>Loved SFSU, but community college is still incredibly cheaper than any university. The cuts that are being made are to the courses that don’t carry much merit or have increasingly low attendance. Also, if you have priority registration for being in that program you can get what you need without having to fight the rest of the wave of new students. <p>If you want the UCLA brand label that badly, then you should have no problem going to a community college and transferring. If you want to avoid community college, take UCSB. Your choice, but understand that many on this board have been through the community college system. Don’t pretend that you’re too good for community college. You’re not. Still, if given the opportunity to go to UCSB straight out of high school, I’d take it.</p>

<p>I say community college. It’ll be a good transition…plus its 9999999999999999x cheaper. I turned down a private university for community college.</p>

<p>No I’m still at JC lol probably gonna spend another 2 years here though…only thing that sucks about CCs right now that its hard to get classes due to these statewide education budget cuts…no worries though, just taking my time. I eventually want to transfer back though. I just didn’t want to have to deal with loans and all of that financial mess…</p>
<p>If cost is an issue, then go the cc route. Otherwise, I would suggest to take UCSB and then try to transfer to UCLA because it is easier to transfer within the UC’s. I know of someone who went to UCD and then transferred to UCI recently. Please keep in mind that there is no guarantee you’d be able to get back in the same school you’d got accepted to the first time if you decide to go the cc route. It all depends on how impacted the schools are when you are applying. Best of luck.</p>
