I posted a thread in the Parent's Cafe and then I though maybe you guys could help, so I am reporting what I wrote here.

I am going broke buying jeans for my daughter that she cannot wear and I need some advice. She is a college freshman, DI athlete, and her body is changing rapidly. She goes to school in Boston, so before she left we bought her several pairs of jeans, several Abercrombie, a Lucky, and a couple of 7 for all Mankind. Unfortunately, none of these jeans fit her anymore. I plan on having the 7's and other nicer jeans altered when she is home, but in the meantime, she needs jeans. She was home for Thanksgivng and we bought her 2 pairs of jeans at American Eagle, one size smaller than the jeans she took with her. They fit her well in the store, a little tight but she expected them to stretch. But when she wore them, they stretched out so much that she had to go back to the dorm and change. Same thing with a pair from Abercrombie, although those only stretched a lot in the waist, while the American Eagle ones stretched through the legs also. So, any suggestions on reasonably priced jeans that will hold their shape reasonable well when worn? She is 5'10" with large quads, 27 inch waist and 31 inseam with flat shoes. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars right now as her body is still adjusting to the knew training regimen and will continue to change through the year. Thanks so much for any suggestions!

Fishymom, my daughter also an athlete and almost exactly the size of your daughter found some very inexpensive black jeans at a Levi outlet over Thanksgiving. They were a little stretchy but she did not complain about them stretching out. Good luck we often have issues with pants because of her athletic build- if they fit the quads they are too big around the waist.

Ready2bdone, we have the exact same problem! And this new crop of jeans stretched out through the leg too, so they look awful. I will try Levi’s, maybe they will work for her,
thanks!

I also once posted a thread on this topic, as D has had major trouble finding jeans that fit for the same reason–if they accomodate her thighs and derriere, they’re a mile too big in the waist. The American Eagle boyfriend jeans worked well for her in high school, but either they changed the proportions or her body changed. Regardless, by end of senior year in high school they no longer fit well. Lucky jeans were recommended to us, and one style did fit nicely–Lolita I think? They are so expensive though! We bought several pair at an outlet, and found a pair or two at Marshalls.

I know they are not jeans, but what about trying some leggings/ jeggings maybe with boots. These tall athletes (I’m jealous) will probably look fantastic in them. It is not for most girls, but my daughter has been wearing dresses with tights since 9th grade and continues to right through college. I thought she was nuts at first, but many of the dresses are long lasting and she didn’t need to buy any clothes for her internship at a major corporation.

Stemit, she is so rockin’ the warm-up pants look! But if I ever want to see grandchildren, she is going to have to wear something other than sweats and run tights sometime! Thanks GFG for the suggestion of Lucky, had sort of forgot about them. We had great luck with them when she was cycling and her quads were ginormous.

Most jeans that you see in ads and on celebrities have been altered to fit the wearer. You may spend 20 at target or 300 at barneys - you still need to get them fitted right, so don’t throw out the ones that dont work now - get them altered. For a larger derriere try the NotYourDaughterJeans - some of the styles are very current and may work. Jeggins from any inexpensive place such as Target or HM will work too. They dont cost more than 40$ and lots of time half that, and if your daughter is tall or short, they look absolutely fantastic with a balerina flat. If you want her in a warm up that’s attractive - look up SoLo, (maybe bloomingdale’s online esp now that they have a sale). They fit at waist, hug and flatter most trim figures. They also have great tennis-like skirts that hide the wideness.

Love this thread --very timely. D went jeans shopping just last weekend; even Lucky, the brand that’s accommodated the large quads/tiny waist combo, didn’t work out this time. Add in a 5’4" frame and finding jeans is always a problem. Keep the ideas coming! I’ll hand them over to her…

Elileo: Amen to that! My D is an athlete and 5’4". She has a power tumblers body and is basically pure muscle with a track girls butt. The jeans that fit her best are Hudson. VERY pricey, but you can find them on-sale on various websites. Have been lucky that she lives in practice clothes, so she really only needs a few pairs.

D is a sprinter and over Thanksgiving shared that she and all her teammates share this problem–jeans that fit their rear ends are all too big in the waist!

My daughter is a sprinter–swimming and track–and ditto the muscled thighs/derriere. She is only 5’5" so she does Target junior size jeans, I think in a 5? They fit snugly and eventually stretch out a bitbut don’t gape at the waist. Yes, she wears a lot of yoga pants! Sigh. I have a nine year old who watches Project Runway and changes several times a day. Can’t believe they’re related. :)

DD, who gently laughs at but indulges my devotion to CC (and the advice I relay to her), actually logged on to read this thread and is checking out Nordstrom (Hudson) and Target, following your tips -thanks! She’s by no means a jean queen, but she does like to have a couple of pairs on hand that really fit and look good (they can be rolled up, but not hemmed; ah, youth, and its vagaries…).
