Jeez, how can you all pay attention in CR?

Once in a while I may be interested in a passage...but I'm finding it very hard sometimes. What do you guys do to pay attention when your reading?

Do you read really fast and spend more time on questions or do you read really slow and comprehend so the questions are a bit easier?

i tell myself this is going to get me into the college that i want to go to, so i make myself pay attention

Being interested in a passage makes a big difference in the CR score.

Just remind yourself that the 4 hrs you spend taking the test are going to play a big role in your college acceptance.

I absolutely hated the CR section- but I forced myself to "enjoy" the passages. I read slowly once- and then I just answer all the questions. It personally helped me because on all the practice tests- I did horribly on CR, but on the real test I did really well. (I have no idea how- i hate that section!!!!)
Force yourself to pay attention- after the test you can reward yourself for going thru the entire brain damaging process :)

A) I = not interested in CR passages
B) I = interested into getting into good college

B overrides A, and it makes me concentrate.

I tried to read slow so I can "comprehend", but that left me with 5 questions unansweared (in a practice test). So I began to read a bit faster, with my eyes on the watch. Normally, I would answear the questions before the passages very fast, so I can have at least 3-4 minutes to read tha passage and answear the rest.

Motivating or obliging your mind to pay attention is also a good ideea. Say something like "wow, this will be fun reading" or try to identify with some1 from the passage, put yourself in their shoes. This makes you more receptive of what the passage tells you and you'll have no problems with the questions.

absolutely... i just tried this method... first time i got a full section of critical reading right... its beautiful...
make believe ur enjoyed... i tell you, Arthur miller's essays on plays have never seemed so interesting... :-D

I bring gum and a song stuck in my head. The action of chewing, singing in my mind, and reading makes it hard for other random subjects to pop into my head.

I have no clue how I stayed awake and payed attention during the exam. In the past, I've fallen asleep during passages about crap like the feminist movement.

In my opinion, the test tests how badly you really want to do well. If you REALLY want a good grade, you'll fall fast asleep.

^ haha

My strategy is underlining the passage as I read... it forces me to stay awake ;)
