Jeff Krosnoff Scholarship

Did anyone apply for the Jeff Krosnoff Scholarship? If yes, do you know when the winner is going to be announced?

I applied, but don't know when the winner will be announced. It just says early April on the site...

Yeah, that's what I thought, but it's nearing mid-April...maybe i'm just impatient. Do you know if they're notifying just by phone? What happens if you hang up on them accidentally thinking they're telemarketers? lol

It says on the website that they're notifying you by phone. You should just be patient. I'm actually not expecting to get it :( It's like one of those fastweb scholarships that are impossible to get.

we tried for this last year and never did see the winner announced, maybe it happened after we stopped looking!

Yeah, I agree with you vupreuss06, I'm not expecting to get it either. Just curious. If you want to see the winner, somemom, the link is http://www.krosnoffscholarship.com/News.htm

Ok, looking at the winner last year, I have some questions. (1) Was it just a coincidence that he scored a perfect score on his SATs? If it was on his HS transcript, then I should have sent my scores in as well. (2) Did he apply EA to MIT? or is it just a coincidence that he got into MIT RD. Yupp, I actually want some scholarship programs to actually tell me that I DIDN'T GET THE SCHOLARSHIP. It's so annoying when they don't tell you anything, and this scholarship will leave you hanging as well too (BLAH). Haha ironically, I'll probably be studying MechE at MIT as well.

Yeah I was wondering about that too! I think my scores were actually on my transcript, but i'm sure it's not required. But I want to know also! Even if I didn't get it! I hate the whole "we're not telling you if you didn't get it, keep checking the site" thing. Now I have to obsessively check the site every day. lol. What colleges did you apply to, besides MIT, vupreuss06?

Top UC's, Cornell, Olin. Waitlisted Harvard, and rejected at Stanford and Princeton. I wasn't expecting the Stanford rejection, but it was because I scrambling to finish the essays the day i got deferred from MIT. How about you?

I applied to five UCs, Stanford Early Action, and Harvard. I was waitlisted at Harvard as well. I got into Stanford, but the percentage of admitted students for Regular Decision was really low this year. They rejected a lot of really great students. They accepted like 1600 out of more than 18000, so don't feel too bad about that. Are you definitely going to be attending MIT?

MIT gave me the most money. Funny how that works out... So it's definitely MIT for me. Good luck at Stanford.

Thanks! Good luck at MIT! Are you going to be working or taking classes this summer? I'm trying to decide whether I should do something, but I'm tempted to just take a summer off and relax...

Thanks LadyL. Good luck to you too! I'm not sure what I'm doing. I'll either be travelling, getting a new job that requires some engineering (may be apprenticeship), or hibernating (as I like to call it). Either way, I need to get prepared for the rigors of the institute.

Wow hibernation sounds really good... best option by far lol. MIT is pretty rigorous and competitive. Have you visited the campus?

Yes, I was there last summer and just went to CPW last weekend. I found that it was the right college for me, and with the financial aid that I couldn't refuse. So are you set on going to Stanford?

Yeah I sent in my reply card already and everything. It was between that and Cal, but I realized that Cal's just not for me, although it's a great school. Did you accept the spot on Harvard's waitlist?

Haha, my mom sent in the Harvard postcard for the waitlist... There's no way I would pull out of MIT.

I didn't even bother...I wouldn't go there anyway. It was mildly satisfying to send them a minor form of rejection lol

Haha, so what's the subject of the thread? When the heck is the scholarship recipient going to be announced...

Can't seem to find out anything more besides:

2006 ESSAY CONTEST IS CLOSED

The essay contest is now closed. The winner will be announced sometime in April. We will not be mailing out cards or other forms communicating that you have not won. Simply check into the site periodically in April to see if a winner has been picked. Good luck.
