Jefferson Scholars Program?

I just got an email inviting me to apply to the Jefferson Scholars Program. I did a bit of digging and I really like the concept, especially because as an engineering major, I won’t get as much exposure to liberal arts, which I want in college. A few questions though:

  1. Is everyone invited to apply?
  2. How competitive is it to be admitted?
  3. Does the program put too much of a burden on an already rigorous engineering curriculum?
  4. If anyone is currently in or have completed the program, could you please give a review of it and your thoughts on its worth?

Thank you!

Last year UT Jefferson’s Scholars had about 400 applicants for 100 spots. My son chose to turn down his spot as he was already in another honors program and didn’t want to overdo it. But I know someone who did it and loved it. Also, they have a waitlist if you don’t get in outright. You can reapply next year if you don’t get it this year. But despite the numbers, I don’t think it’s that hard to get into, as one of the students we know who got it was not an automatic admit and still got into Jefferson Scholars. Supposed to be a really good program.
