Jehovah’s Witnesses DEFINITELY promote marriage for female members to other followers of the faith. Relationships with ‘outsiders’ are greatly discouraged. No surprise there. But the religion absolutely instructs women to defer their own personal aspirations to that of their husbands. Right or wrong, that’s the belief that I have observed in action.

This thread has been dead for two years. I don’t know why we are rehashing it now. I doubt the OP is still listening.

But I am, and apparently so are a few other people. Interesting topic.

I read the entire thread, too. Interesting topic to me. I didn’t know all this stuff.

“engaged to a man 15 years older and was destined for an arranged marriage”

Oh hodel oh hodel, have I got a match for you! He’s handsome, he’s young, alright he’s 62, but he’s a nice man a good catch, right, right!!

:) sorry, its friday.

An arranged marriage doesn’t have to mean an age mismatch. I know in the Hasidic community it usually doesn’t.

I know this post is a year old now but I wanted to clear things up in case other people read this. I was looking on google if having an uncommon religion would give me some sort of advantage while applying for COLLEGE. I came across this post and a lot of you are really really confused on our religion. BOTH my parents are JW’s and my father is an elder in our congregation and I am most likely attending John Hopkins University. College is up to every person, our religion doesn’t decide or “shun” us for it. A lot of my friends are going to college too. To be honest some people in my congregation are just plain lazy and use the excuse that we aren’t allowed to go to college as the reason on why they didn’t go.

-We are not married off to 30 year old men
-We are not a cult
-We are not expected to be a janitor

I am going in as a pre-med student and I definately don’t plan on leaving my religion just because I’m going to college. I love my religion! We are normal people, I just wanted others to know that :)

Carlykay…me too! I was reading all of the posts and some people have it wrong. It is a conscious decision, an issue to be decided upon by the student and their family. My religion just tries to stress the fact that religion should not be second place to college or higher education. BALANCE is key, basically. I know people right now, who are pioneering and attending college full time. And not a community college, but UMD. It has to do with the type of person you are basically. I know people who have done trade work as well. My mother was raised a witness and raised my sisters and I as one as well. She never went to college or trade school and is doing fine. I’m going to college in the fall, probably UMD and I plan to still continue going to the Kingdom Hall and out in field service.

Did you make a new account for the post before last? I especially like the nice touches, like how one of your accounts is going to JHU and the other is going to UMD. Usually posters try a little harder to make the sock puppet seem like somebody else. :)

^ lol …

How about that’s a coincidence. How about I have no idea who that is but we have a mutual interest and religion. How about I typed in the word Jehovah on the search link to see if there were any other witnesses in the same situation as me. How about you stop assuming and thinking that I would do something this POINTLESS. Especially almost three months apart. Because I’m that pressed correct? How about your sarcastic comment wasn’t needed. Thanks. :).

Carlykayy2
ckay220

It’s not a coincidence. Just look at the similarities of the two screen names and the use of CAPITAL letters. Next time you want to post answers/responses to yourself or have conversations with yourself, be a little more original with the name you assign to your additional account.

My name is Chynna you dunce. Not Carly. I enjoy how you’re telling me what I’m doing though. But I’m aware of myself…my iPod that I’m using…and my account that I made a few weeks ago to know that I’m not stupid. I’m glad you’re taking the time out to assume things though. It’s very becoming. You’re ignorant. And I’m innocent. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME THOUGH. :). I GUESS USING CAPITAL LETTERS MEANS SOMETHING NOWADAYS. :).

I guess the other posters comments became irrelevant once I told them my name was Chynna. Because no one has the time to make up that unique of a name. I wonder if that was their thinking. Well no, no I don’t. I just don’t care. Hahaha. Stupid.

What’s the point of sending your kids to college if you believe Armageddon is at hand?

Chynna is not that unique of a name, and just because you claim that’s your name, doesn’t make it the truth. But it’s nice to know you have the time to be a creative ■■■■■, not just your usual forum crawling ■■■■■.

tk…it just becomes a conscious decision. I’ve never really cared about going to college. I just always knew that I would go. As a Jehovah’s Witness, I don’t plan on stopping my religion or putting it on hold because I’m going to college. I’ll still be going out in field service and attending my meetings. But it is my personal choice as it is everyone else’s. And I’m no elder or anything. Just a normal 17 year old so I don’t have all the answers. But I do know its up to me and my family and this is the decision I’m making for my future. And Smithie, dignifying your response with an answer would be pointless. Especially since I know I’m not the other person. Or a ■■■■■. But FYI, that was the only post that carlykay ever posted. Just a point I wanted to make before I wanted to let you know that I truly and sincerely hope you have a wonderful day assuming things just like the rest of the posters on page 4 of this post. Lol.:):):):):)

We are not the same person…

I came back to see if anyone responded to this and was kind of confused when I saw ckay220. I thought you were pretending to be me or mocking me. I don’t see why anyone would put the time to pretend to be two people? But okay whatever. Aren’t you guys adults and parents? But your here accusing two teenage girls and acting like children.

tk, thank you for your snarky comment. Yes we believe Armageddon is coming but does that mean we can’t be educated? Please don’t act like we are crazy when it’s clearly stated in the bible and other religions just choose to ignore it.

Carlykayy, I must admit I was suspicious when I saw that you got the name of your own college wrong.

Typo? & i didn’t know how to go back and edit it. What do I gain from lying about where I go? To prove a point in a post made years ago? I have no reason to lie. I’m going to JOHNS HOPKINS in the fall. It’s the only university that I wanted to go to that allowed me to commute and live with my parents so I could still be active in my religion.

Is it really that hard to believe that a little “dumb” Jehovah’s witness can attend a university like JHU?

I came here to answer questions so people can stop being so ignorant about the religion not to uselessly lie on a message board.

Carlykayy, you’re cool. Lol. I guess the world is against us, huh? But isn’t that what’s recorded in the scriptures anyways? Lol. I’ll be going to Bowie State, commuting for the same reason you stated. And I was given a full ride…so woo hoo! Lol.:)
