Jersey shore student body?

I was just wondering how the student body is at Rutgers. I am from Brooklyn so I am very used to these jersey shore wannabe types. I just hope that they are not there in great amounts at Rutgers. I have been living on the west coast for a couple years and not being around self proclaimed 'guidos' and 'guidette princesses' is one of my favorite things. Ugghhh! Moving back east, I am dreading having to deal with that bunch again. I asked my friend who attends Seton Hall and she says not to worry because they say the same thing about Seton Hall having a bunch of jersey shore wannabes and guidos and it is not true. I stood at her school overnight for a whole week and didnt see anyone I would classify as a jersey shore wannabe. Hopefully when it comes to Rutgers it is the same because I have heard that there is a large 'jersey shore type' crowd there.

And please dont tell me something like 'you can choose who you want to be friends with' or 'there is a crowd for everyone'. My question is not about making friends. I dont have issues with that. I am asking if there is a large population of wannabe Snookis and Situations.

A lot of the people on The Jersey Shore aren’t even from NJ at all, but New York and Rhode Island! Keep that in mind.

The Rutgers community is extremely diverse. Didn’t you write the essay? :/

LOL yes rseverino512, I am familiar with the show. But the actual show aside, these guidos and guidettes do exist in abundance in NJ!

rualum: Essay? What do you mean?

The essay that you had to write when you were applying to Rutgers.

I live in central New Jersey, and have probably been all over New Jersey. I only know one guido in my life.
Don’t base Jersey off of stereotypes from a show =/

The school is very diverse and you will see a very few jersey shore stereotypes here.

Rutgers is in Central Jersey, not anywhere by the shore. Basically no “Jersey Shore” people, I have lived there all my life and have failed to meet any of those kind of people. Sorry to disappoint you :(

I would think those Jersey shore type people would wanna stick to the shore. Try Monmouth.

I am not looking for Jersey Shore types! I am just asking if they are at Rutgers because clearly, that would disappoint me if you read my original post…
Honestly, its nice to hear all these “no’s” im getting from people but thats hard to believe because when I watch videos online of Rutgers or when I research RU student groups online and look at photos thats all I see…

@SixFlags…yes I remember my essay. What does that have to do with understanding that Rutgers is diverse? I never said it wasnt. That has nothing to do with my question at all…

"…because when I watch videos online of Rutgers or when I research RU student groups online and look at photos thats all I see…"

That’s odd. I think that Rutgers makes it a point to show a diverse group of people in their promotional materials.

You will encounter all types of people at Rutgers. I’m sure there will be a few Jersey Shore wannabes and guidos, but isn’t that true no matter where you go that there are always people trying to be something they are not or someone they want to emulate. It’s human nature! The west coast isn’t immune from this either (LA born and raised), take Los Angeles / Hollywood, so many transplants from other states wanting to get into the business (fake boobs, hair extensions, extreme weight watching, etc.) or the “Valley or Beverly Hills Girls” you get the jist. There will always be this type of element at play - sad but true. Be yourself and your friends that you make should be a reflection of similar nature.

P.S. I love that so many Jersey Girls are true to themselves, how refreshing.

Its not people who are trying to be something theyre not im particularly peeved of. Im not really judging these ‘guidos’ or saying they are not being true to themselves. I mean …who is to say that? Im just saying guidos in particular annoy me. That is all.

RUALUM: I didnt say it was RU promo material

"…when I watch videos online of Rutgers or when I research RU student groups online and look at photos thats all I see…"

MG I assumed these were videos put out by Rutgers. If they are just random youtube videos, you are not going to see a representative sample of the people who attend Rutgers. As I said, it’s very diverse.
