JES finalist notification?

When do JES finalists get notified? I heard January?

What's the envelope look like? Thick or thin?
If you're NOT a finalist, do they still notify you with a letter saying that they'll be putting you under regular decision or something?

JES Notification
For Fall 2006, merit scholarship applicants started getting their letters around Jan 9th, 2006 and JES weekend started Feb 9th.

For Fall 2007, merit scholarship applicants started getting their letters around Jan 8th, 2007 and JES weekend started Feb 8th.

So for Fall 2008, merit scholarship applicants might start getting their letters around Jan 7th, 2008 and JES weekend starting Feb 7th?

If not a finalist you will get a thin letter. Not sure about the thickness of the finalist letter.

Being or not being a JES finalist isn't the same as applying ED or Reg decision. If you applied ED I you will find out if accepted, rejected or deferred on Dec 15th, if ED II on Feb 15th and if Reg Decision by April 1st.

I'm assuming that if you're a finalist, you're accepted, yes?

I would assume so, but if the Fall high school grades went way down I guess there is a chance that the student would not be accepted.

what's the definition of way down?
because junior year i got a 4.0, but this year so far i have an A-, a B+, and 4 A's.... semester grades might not be a 4.0- is this bad? it's not that i'm not trying, it's just that for some reason this year's classes are really difficult than usual or my teachers literally don't teach.

I would say anything that shows a dramatic down trend would be cause for alarm as far as admission goes. I don't think a couple of B+ grades would be an issue. If you are applying regular decision I think they get the fall grades and also the counselor sends in an updated report based on fall. So if the counselor doesn't say there is a different in their recommendation based on fall performance, I wouldn't worry about it.
