hey y'all. does anyone know when we are supposed to hear about the if we're scholarship finalists? i vaguely remember reading mid-january, but does anyone know anything more specific?

I called their office this morning on an unrelated issue and the lady I spoke with mentioned that the scholarship apps were in committee today.... so hopefully soon XD

The Admission Committee will evaluate applications in December, and in mid-January will invite finalists to spend a weekend on campus. The weekend includes lectures, faculty meetings, tours, visits with current students, and other events to help applicants experience the full range of opportunities available at Scripps. http://www.scrippscol.edu/dept/admission/jess.html

So, no, I guess I don't have anything more specific, but good luck!

Last year merit scholarship applicants started getting their letters around Jan 9th and JES weekend was Feb 9th.

If anyone gets a letter about JES finalist, post it here.

I just got my letter saying that I'm a finalist. I live in Northern California,
and am really excited. I'll write more later - I have a big essay due tomorrow.

i got my letter. omg. i'm so excited!!!

wait a sec...for those of us who got the letter, do you think that means that we're accepted???

Congrats to those of you who got the finalist letter and are invited for the JES weekend.
I don't work for Scripps, but I can't imagine that you would not be accepted unless your mid-year school report came out bad.

I just got my letter; I'm in Nevada. I guewss I'll be seeing some of you in a month XD

I would be extremely suprised if any finalists were not accepted, with the exception of horrific mid-year grades or some sort of discovered falsification on the app. Rejecting someone they are trying to entice with a full ride doesn't seem to mesh, but like the poster above, we don't know for sure.

I'm another super-excited letter recipient! I live in New Orleans.

Does anyone know how many finalists get the scholarship, and what they use to make the decision? Is it based on our interviews over the weekend or another essay or the current information that they have?

Thanks!

I got a letter, and I'm going up on Thursday...I'm from Chattanooga, TN and am curious as to how many total people got a letter. If anyone knows, that would be interesting to see how many ppl will be there on Friday. Best of luck!

Last year, I read 108 students were there for the JES weekend on another post.
Most years 35-40 end up actually going to Scripps, but last year I think is was only 25. I don't have numbers on how many were offered the JES in their acceptance packets.

It's definitely a busy weekend. There are enough JES scholars visiting that they're [unfortunately] housed in a nearby hotel (walking distance) rather than on-campus. We promise we like you...we just don't have room for all of you at once ;-)

ever_after: JES is 1/2 tuition, not full ride (just to clarify).

Congrats to you all...enjoy this weekend!
