I know there's a bunch of threads about housing, but I had to ask...

Does anyone know if there's still space available in Jester? Seeing as how a lot of people prefer Jester over other dorms, I was wondering if anyone had secured a dorm without much difficulty?

no one will know till housing assignments are made in the summer. Housing preference comes on a first come first served basis depending on how early you payed for and completed your housing app. For example if you did it in november Decemberish your wayyyyyy more likely to get your housing choice then someone who did it in march

@wiseweise - In 2012 did the university tell students that they had been assigned to a dorm room but when they got to campus, there wasn’t one available? Or did they just not notify students that the dorms were full and students assumed they would have a spot when they got there? Just want to make sure that if we are told we have a dorm room, we really have one.

In 2012, more students accepted their enrollment to the University than expected. So, instead of the normal 7,200 incoming freshmen, there were over 8,000. Which means more students were in line for housing.

Everyone who got a housing contract got a room. I think what @wiseweise is talking about are students with supplemental contracts instead of permanent contracts. Students with supplemental contracts do not get their official room assignment until 24 hrs before the check-in, as UT Housing is working to hopefully upgrade their contract to a permanent type before check-in. Here is more info on supplemental. [Division of Housing and Food Service - Supplemental](<a href=“UHD Homepage | University Housing and Dining”>UHD Homepage | University Housing and Dining)

But, yes - if you get a contract of any type, permanent or supplemental, and you turn it back in along with any advance payment, you have a guaranteed space on campus.

I want either jester east or jester west, and those were my first and second choices.
and I chose community bath because I wanted the cheapest thing.
I don’t want to be at Moore hill or the smaller ones, but I have to put those as my choices 3-5!!
So what might be the chances of me getting my first or second choices? I turned in my housing contract barely this week

It’s hard to say what anyone’s chances are, simply because it all depends on what everyone else put as their preferences who turned in their housing app before you. But, always good to remember that something you think you will totally hate could end up being completely awesome - wherever you live, you make the community what it is.

My son (currently a freshman) turned in his application in Dec of 2011. He picked 5 choices for where to live and he was placed in the 6th dorm – which he didn’t even want.

For next year, he asked for a single, followed by a double in any dorm other than where he is, and he was placed in a double his current dorm of Creekside. He is 18th on the waitlist for a single.

I don’t think that housing pays much attention to what the students want.

I can’t imagine that turning in the house application this late would result in any housing at UT at all.

From talking with UT Housing, they have let me know that there is still housing available for the on-campus residence halls. Of course, the earlier students apply the better chance for being assigned to their top preferences. And students can always put in a room change request at any time if they are unhappy with their current room assignment.

And there are very few single rooms on campus (less than 200), so it is difficult for any student to get into a single, freshman or not.
