I haven't seen this on any of the other housing threads, so here goes:
I submitted all of my application materials by December 13-14 (just in case). As of today my transcript has still not been processed, and I know it is because it is buried beneath a bunch of other mail at the college. But the problem is, I have to wait for it to get processed before I can start my housing application. If I apply by mid-January or so, do I still have a chance at getting a room? Or should I look into off-campus? I was hoping to get into Prather or Brackenridge, if possible.

I think they have room for everyone who requests housing. It’s just that you’ll be down the list on dorm selection. But it’s my understanding that San Jacinto and Duren are the hardest to get in, and since those aren’t your top choices, you’ll probably be okay.

I called the school and they said they’re really behind on paperwork, so they’ll probably have my transcript processed in two weeks or so… I’ve heard that competition for those dorms isn’t too bad, is that true? I’m just hoping not to get stuck in Jester. Or Littlefield.

You’ll definitely get a room on campus. I applied in may and got jester (It actually wasn’t bad!). I know somebody who applied in January and got san jac.
If I were you, I wouldn’t worry about housing right now.

I may be talking about the wrong thing if you haven’t seen this in other threads yet but your place in line for housing was made when you deposited the $50 with your application in December, not after you are accepted and submit a contract.

And either way there’s nothing wrong with staying in Jester. It’s a great dorm! I’ve talked to my brother who attends UT and done a decent amount of research and Jester really offers one of the best “college experiences” out there, smelly or not. I applied mid-November and put Jester down as my first choice.

I think the OP is saying that his/her application to UT is not complete yet (the status page does not say “Your application is complete”) so he/she can’t apply for housing yet.

Haha, I don’t think I’ll have to worry about Simkins.
I’m waiting for the application to be “completed” and though I have sent in the $50 fee, I haven’t been able to submit the separate $50 housing fee. One reason I really liked Prather was the room space (esp. the bunk bed option) and the small amount of people sharing each bathroom.
