<p>There have been and continue to be many acts of violence and hatred in the name of religion, probably moreso than any other single cause.</p>
<p>You also basically say that people cannot have good morals without the influence of religion, either directly or indirectly. Religion is a man-made tool for teaching morals and giving others hope. It is simply a representation of a society's moral views at a certain time. People had moral values before religions was invented and they will continue to have them after the trend away from religion is complete.</p>
<p>I know Christians like that. I know Christians who are not like that. I am one who is not like that.</p>

It's sad that people associate Church with God. Church should be in your heart (according to Bible at least).</p>

It's just because until 19th century every country was in someway religious. Then emerged USSR, highly atheistic society. Notice that level of violence didn't go down even though Soviet Union was your ideal atheistic society with few people believing into God and majority into science.</p>

I don't think it's good when religion takes over the government. Then people will go to religion just to gain money/fame.</p>
