JHU and Duke

if you're brother was in bme or chem biom eng, his gpa will have suffered quite a bit...due to the difficulty of those majors =(

Yeah, alot of people at Duke start undergrad as Pre-Med. My bro is a senior there and says more than half of the people he knows and have heard of that started as pre-med ended up going into Law, or a major geared towards a high paying job like I-Banking.

I'd say Duke. It's much more enjoyable.

The published med school admissions stats for both are misleading. The minority who eventually apply to med school are the survivors of those who found themselves on a bell curve with hundreds of 1450-1500 SAT straight A students who had ambitions to go medical school. Going to either Duke or JHU will give you no better shot at a top med school than attending any of a few dozen other quality universities or LAC's. Having a reputation as a top research university does not always translate to quality instruction in the core sciences that are required for med school and tested on the MCAT.

yes, you are obviously right, state schools will be easier to get that gpa but people go to jhu and duke for getting research opportunities and etc due to the near and highly ranked med school and hospital and especially the rec letter which will be given to you once you meet all requirements which will be viewed highly upon by admission committees
