JHU Summer University

I was too late to apply this summer, but I'm thinking of applying next summer. I'm a rising junior right now. I'm looking at the website and the classes sound really interesting (especially the political science ones) and you get credits for them even though they're only two weeks long. My question is, is this program any good? How hard is it to get in? It's incredibly expensive, and I'd like to hear from someone who's done it :)

Just to put your mind at ease, it isn’t hard to get in at all. Expensive programs usually aren’t…

I did the 5 week long summer university at Hopkins in 07 and it was amaazing. I’m not sure if that’s what you’re talking about, but if not you should definitely look into it =] It was expensive, yes, but that’s because you get college credit and obviously have to pay for room and board. When I went there were only about 100 kids in the program so you get to know people really well. I’m really not sure how competitive it is to get in, but the majority of people that were in the program with me went on to top tier schools–I’m starting at Hopkins as a freshman in the fall.

fairy_dreams, have you done the program?

Thanks for the information, it’s much appreciated  They are five weeks long! For some reason I was under the impression that they were two weeks. That actually makes me really happy because I live in Europe and to fly to America for a two weeks course that costs that much money made me feel silly. But now I get twice the time for the same amount of money which is great.
I definitely want to apply now, and I hopefully will if I’m not completely bogged down with IB stuff.

Hi I am going to the precollege program this summer and i wanted to ask you since you went, what is the social life like. I am worried that its gonna be all work and the kids are going to be no fun. Are there parties, boy-girl interactions, etc. haha. thats my concern of this program. Thanks!
