jobs for high school students

Does anyone here have a job that pays more than minimum wage by a few dollars or so? Where do you work?

i'm really undecided about my summer... i have a job but everyone hates the boss and wants to quit. more money would also be nice, but i don't mind min wage. i would like a job typing stuff because that is the only skill that i really have.

desk clerk at a hotel i work in holiday inn express in MS and i make 9 bucks and hour.. =)

and im only 16!!

Guj, what do you do on a day to day basis? How many hours do you work?

there's a company in my area that is paying high school students $40 an over this summer. he is going to be test driving cars. he was given a reasoning test, physical, etc just to get the job.

what about if you're over 18? what kind of jobs open up as a result of not being a minor?

All u do is give people rooms simple.. and i work for about 8 hrs. making that 72 bucks a day..504 bucks a week =) well not anyone could get this job my dad owns many hotels in the area so he talked to the owner of this hotel and let me in on it.

Once you turn 18, you can get a bartender's license. That's probably where you'd make the most money.

I thought it was 21?

yeah considering you can't even drink...

It's 18 to serve, 21 to drink in many states (e.g. New York), but the laws vary in different parts of the country.

Many retail sales jobs require you to be 18 because of various company policies (most clothing stores, for example). This is sometimes the result of confidentiality agreements, discounts placed on a store credit card, etc.

Entry-level food service jobs (restaurants, fast food, movie theaters, grocery stores) are generally open to minors.

thats something i'd never do....what good is a bartender doing for humanity? lol sending drunk drivers on the streets and promoting the use of alcohol? give me a break hah

we should be aiming at jobs geared towards our goals

Unfortunatley most people's dreams don't consist of flipping burgers at Burger King. Not everyone can afford to spend summer teaching blind, illiterate refugees to tap dance at the local YMCA.

Take the jobs you can get while you're in high school, and do volunteering towards what you're interested in, because you probably don't have the skills to get paid for it yet.

Someones gotta flip burgers, bag groceries, bartend, waitress.....

In Minnesota, you only have to be 16 to serve drinks and 18 to pour them. Kinda weird, might as well just lower the legal drinking age.

know how old you have to be for a barista job in starbucks or something? or does that require special skills..
