Hi everyone! I thought I’d create this thread so everyone wait listed at JHU could share information about the wait list. If you have any news about what’s happening with the wait list please post it! Thanks
count us in…credit to @otrastudying spend the last 20 min checking the past yrs threads for wl lol. our odds are barely existent. looks like there are ~1k on waitlist and ~20-60 get accepted (or at least that’s what happened in past).
I haven’t checked my admissions decision yet but would be grateful if I can get a waitlist. Meanwhile, would anyone like to share which major(s) they are waitlisted under here: https://www.■■■■■■■■■■■■/15284925 ?
FYI, I applied as a Civil Engineering major.
Added to the straw poll! Glad this thread was started – already planning on sending a LOCI early next week as JHU was one of my top choices and absolute favorite school
What is LOCI?
Oh, I found what it is
Got waitlisted for JHU Engineering(CS). Does that mean I basically have a zero chance at all the other elite schools I applied to(Cornell, CMU, Duke, Penn)? Ik Hop is top in engineering but so are these other schools, if not harder.
Not to give off the wrong impression- Hop is one of my top choices
Waitlisted
1st choice: BME
@TheOnceler I would take waitlist to mean “admissible but not our top priority when shaping the entire class.” I think it’s a little harsh to say you have no chances at your other schools. But you are quite possibly “average excellent” and not standing out as much as others. Or, you may have something Hopkins didn’t need this year but another school did.
My twin sister and I both got waitlisted. Tied for first in our class, 4.0 UWGPA, lots of extracurricular activities, sports, community service, leadership, activities outside school… I’m pretty bummed, but I know JHU is private and has a very small class size, which definitely makes it hard to get in.
By the way, we both applied engineering undeclared.
just looking at threads and decisions, I feel this was an especially tough year for engineering and CS
There are many factors that plays in to acceptance rates, for eg this year JHU has accepted students from 87 different countries and that is 9% of their class of 2022.
In terms of ethnic breakdown of the Johns Hopkins Class of 2022, 28% identify as Asian, 24% as Caucasian, 18% as Hispanic, 14% as Black, 2% as Native American, 1% as Pacific Islander. 9% of admits are international.
The most represented countries outside of the United States in Johns Hopkins’ Class of 2022 are China, South Korea, Brazil, India, and Canada.
For those who believe in that Asians are at a disadvantage, @ JHU being asian may have increased your odds!
Does ISEF finalist(got it this year Science fair) make work for the admission for me?
For being on the JHU waitlist, should we send a midyear report, or is it ok to just send a LOCI instead?? If anyone can give some advice on this, please let me know. Thanks and good luck to all of you!
does anyone know where to send their LOCI to?
@sendmetothemoon I emailed my regional counselor first (found on JHU website) and she told me: “You are welcome to send any update materials to applyhelp@jhu.edu. Please be sure to include your full name, birth date, school name, and also a note that the materials should be included as a wait list update to your previous application. These update materials can include additional letters of recommendation or new information about awards, special programs, extracurricular activities, etc. that you’ve learned about since you submitted your initial application.” Hope that helps
On the JHU Waitlist FAQ’s, it says to not send any other letters of reccomendation… Should I email my counselor??
@AmeliaProbst I asked my regional counselor the exact same thing and she said this: “Sending an additional letter of recommendation will not negatively impact your waitlist decision. However, we find that letters of interest, updated resumes, and updated transcripts are the most helpful in the waitlist review process.” So I’m sending one, but I would still double check with your counselor…
@misskeisha Thank you!!
