Johns Hopkins Academic Standards for Athletesr

I’ve been asked by a coach to send documents for pre-read from the admissions. I had some questions like how much time does it take? What are the average academic standards i.e. SAT and GPA for D3 sports at JHU? Do you get more relaxation on academic side if your athletic stats are better? Any other related information would be highly appreciated.

You should ask the coach all of these questions.

In our experience, the admissions preread is relatively quick but they don’t relax admissions standards for athletes. Agree with @Mwfan1921 that you should ask the coach for specifics.

We were told that although some prereads come in as “acceptable,” in many cases the preread comes back as a “possible” and they want to see fall grades before they decide for sure.

Thanks @Mwfan1921 and @HMom!! I thought maybe it won’t be appropriate to throw all these questions at him…Well I’m at the 25% of accepted candidates SAT and GPA!! Plus I’m taking a gap year so I’ll then get a yes or no!!

How do you know what the 25% range is for GPA? I’ve only seen the average 3.92 UW? I would love to see a range. D21 is going TO since she has yet been able to take a test here in California and she’s applying ED.

The standards for recruited athletes are much lower than otherwise, at Hopkins, as with Ivies. Lacrosse only plays Division I and is top ranked. The standards for a good lacrosse player or a star in another sport are probably pretty low. The coaches at Hopkins and other colleges could give you an idea of exactly what is needed.
