Johns Hopkins D3 athletics and ED

My D attended Official Visit this fall, and a couple of weeks ago the coach asked him for an updated transcript with Sr classes. The coach is encouraging applying ED, but says he hasn’t received any feedback on pre-read. How long does pre-read take, especially if coach is encouraging applying ED? D’s test scores are at/above 75%, and high GPA.

I would be very careful. Unless you are hearing the magic words “your pre-read came back positive” and “you have our support and we encourage you to apply ED,” you may have nothing in terms of an athletic tip. One of my kids went through the same process at JHU and I felt the process was anything but clear and transparent.

Hopkins has two athletic worlds, lacrosse and everything else.

If there is a delay in the pre-read, don’t apply ED unless you are prepared to be rejected. The only reason for the coach to do that is that the pre-read isn’t positive, or requires more support than he is prepared to give. He’s hoping it will work out without having proof.
