I’m a Virginia applicant of Johns Hopkins and I was wondering what chance you guys think I have of getting in? All feedback is appreciated, thank you!!!

I’d say you’ve got a pretty slim chance of getting in. Given your ECs and work, I’d guess that you’re targeting their BME or something bio related, which are, as I’m sure you’re aware, among the best in the country. Hopkins is essentially an ivy in terms of admissions, and your stats, both GPA and SAT, are below their averages. I’d say it’s unlikely you’ll get in. Theres still a chance, although it’s pretty slim. Good luck regardless.
I disagree with the previous post.
GPA:
Your GPA is actually about average, if not a bit higher.
SAT:
JHU SAT: 25th percentile: 2000, 75th percentile: 2280
Your SAT: 2120 (about 48th percentile)
ECs:
Apparently, you are planning to major in a STEM field. Holding a president’s position in a STEM club and a vice-president in also a STEM club will make you stand out. President in Future Business Leaders of America will also make you stand out.
Work:
I’m not sure of your work experiences time-wise, but apparently you have long work experiences, which will help you as JHU “considers” work experiences and volunteer works as well (though not important).
My conclusion based on the given information is that JHU should be a high match school for you. Keep working!
@HardOREasy you should really do your research before commenting. Jhu is a high reach school for this person.
Average gpa of current enrolled freshman is a 3.92. Sat range is 1480 to 1560. He is solidly below the 25th percentile in both gpa and sat
Keep in mind this is for enrolled freshman, admitted stats are even higher

As for the old SATs, the op is again close or below the 25th percentile for enrolled freshman. enrolled range from 2 years ago:
2090 to 2320.
Keep in mind the 25th percentile is likely around 2150 now for last year as the above stats are 2 years old for enrolled freshman.

Also any school that accepts less than 15% of applicants or less than 12% in this case is a match for no one. Too much uncertainty as many of the rejected apps had top notch scores as well. Being president of a club is not impressive. Winning a state science fair, doing research with a college professor, getting published seems to be the bar these days
High reach, tough luck. Most schools won’t look at people below the 25th unless they’re right on the cusp. You aren’t so don’t get your hopes up.

@stevensPR Note that I was basing my conclusion on the Common Data Set released by Johns Hopkins University:
http://web.jhu.edu/registrar/reports/Reports_2013_2014/CDS_2013-2014_10-9-214_guidebooks.pdf
By no means am I saying that you are wrong, and certainly, you may be right. What I am saying is that the source I was basing my judgment upon just got me to conclude differently.
@HardOREasy you are using really outdated data from a cds that is about 4 years old.
See cds here:
http://web.jhu.edu/registrar/EnrollmentReport/2014_2015EnrollmentReport.pdf
And keep in mind the above is outdated as well by 3 years. You can already see the uw gpa is 3.88
When you comment on stats, you should look at collegeboard or us news for the latest as they mirror cds
@stevensPR It really looks like a big deal to you somehow. If by any chance I’ve hurt your feelings then I will apologize. But again, just be noted that not everyone shares the same opinions as yours.
@HardOREasy im not hurt, i would rather ensure people are getting the right picture on here for any school. It is bad enough we have high schoolers commenting on chances, even worse when we are citing the wrong stats
@stevensPR It is very interesting that you are finding high school students commenting on chances “bad enough.” May I ask why you find bad about those students expressing their opinions on College Confidential.
@HardOREasy because by virtue of their age, none of them have any admissions experience. At least with college students or adults, they have been through it and can be more insightful. In my case, i helped with admissions at uchicago.
The repercussions are larger as well. Id hate for someone to get their hopes up for a school that they have very poor chances at or to not apply if someone says they have no chance with faulty info. It is better to paint an objective picture where possible and set the right expectations.
@stevensPR So, does your explanation amount to “High school students should be deprived of commenting privilege in Chance Me forum”?
@HardOREasy not at all, but rather to take such advice with a huge tub of salt and also to do your due diligence
@stevensPR All righty. Pleasure talking to you.
@stevensPR @HardOREasy Thanks for the feedback from both of you. I understand that Johns Hopkins is a reach school for me, although I was hoping my essay and ec’s would help me somewhat standout as an aspiring female bioengineer. I guess I am anxious about college to say the least, and simply wanted some insight on where I stand.
Old SAT average is 2120 /new SAT is 1470/ unweighted GPA is 3.7 for accepted students.Your GPA and SAT score are enough because it is average. It depends on activities but your activity is solid.I bet you will get acceptance letter.
High reach, you should probably look for a safety school. UVA is always an option
How viable a candidate do you think I am for UVA @vrhou98
As a Virginia applicant to JHU myself (last year), I think you may have a shot. One thing I will say is, if your stats aren’t as good as you want them to be, definitely speak on your work experiences in your application. If you have highly unique experiences (what did you do at the Children’s Science Center?), that will boost your chances. I scored 1950 on my SAT and got into both Hopkins and Vanderbilt, then waitlisted to Duke. By the way…I would take the opinions of your fellow college applicants who somehow know the ins and outs of the application review process with a grain of salt. Good luck!
