Hello! Does anyone know if there are any highly selective schools that tend to give some admissions preference to students who are selected to JH CTY Study of Exceptional Talent or are Davidson Institute Young Scholars? Thank you!
Not that I’m aware of. Entry to those programs is typically 8th grade or younger. Being selected doesn’t mean much 3-4 years or more later. Presumably, someone with the talent to qualify will be able to continue with high performance when it matters in school, on SAT/ACT, etc. If not, what they did in 7th grade doesn’t make up for it.
Fwiw, we’ll probably throw in SET and DYS as a line item under Activities for my D, but only if there’s extra space at the end.
Agree with @RichInPitt that neither matters for college admissions. My son had both but he didn’t list either on the applications.
On the other hand, getting those qualifications makes something like National Merit semi finalist likely, which can be a benefit when applying to colleges rated between 20-40.
Thank you for the replies!
My D21 was in the Johns Hopkins CTY program and the one advantage related to college admissions could be taking the classes they offer online or attending the summer camps. They offer a number of AP courses.
Agree - what you do with it can make a difference. But just being selected, as asked, likely doesn’t. The summer programs and online classes will go on my D’s application.
