Renaming the University of Pennsylvania to Wharton University would accomplish numerous strategic goals of the University:

-Consolidate the University’s brand under a single moniker
-Eliminate confusion with Penn State and being a state school in general
-Leverage the University’s strongest brand name for the benefit of the entire University
-No more “Penn not UPenn” hysterics
-It’s got a nice ring to it

Yes, we can change our name. We’ve already changed it 3 times in the course of our history. Hell we even changed the date we decided we were founded.

well JohnnyK, apparently u are a genius in ur own regard, but I meant it as in the point of why would u rename a whole university if it was going to be named for the business school.

seems pretty dumb in my opinion....they should prolly make it an all business school really...cuz thats the only thing people know about Penn. Wharton. And dont get me started with the Penn State crap too

I don't see why this concept is so difficult for you to grasp the idea that the school is not named after the business school. From that point on it is the name of the entire university, named after a wealthy benefactor in who donated enough to start a new school in 1881.

The payoff for a few years of confusion is spectacular.

Although I'm applying to Wharton I'm still proud of Penn, if I was only able to go to Upenn (using both names) I would be perfectly happy and honored.
