Something else I'm curious about, though it has more to do with U.S. law...if I have a driver's license and a car for myself, do I need to go through a lot of legal stuff? Do I need to take my driving test again? Do I need an Illinois license, or can I keep my Quebec one?

dude, you'll definitely need a new liscence if you're from Quebec. I think I'll need one and I'm from out of state.

You will not need any new driver's license. A Quebec license is fully valid in the United States. You may have trouble getting good insurance, but there are no license issues.

College students are not considered residents for things like licensing so you will have no worries. Your canadian inssurance will probobly apply in the US as well but you should make sure (and the rules may be different in terms of letting other people drive your car on your insurance)

Would you consider the metra safe? They do afterall walk through the train and collect tickets...seems pretty safe...
