If I join a sorority, that has a national chapter, at one college, and transfer to another college which has the same chapter, what is the process for getting into the same chapter at that new college?
Just out of curiosity. Thanks!

You can contact your national headquarters for specific instructions. Don’t be afraid to call! They’re really nice and will be happy to help you. Generally you make sure you leave your current chapter “in good standing” - that means all bills paid, no grade problems. You will then contact the chapter at your new school and tell them you are transferring and would like to meet them. Now, in some sororities, there’s no question that they’ll affiliate any undergraduate member. In others, the chapter can choose whether or not to affiliate, depending on their current membership.
If you transfer and don’t affiliate, you’ll be considered an alumna member.
Here’s what I always suggest: Chapters can have very, very different personalities. You may adore your current chapter. The one at the new school may be totally different. Consider holding off affiliation for a semester. Get to know the sisters at the new chapter - go hang out with them, visit for formal events that alumnae would be invited to, have dinner a few times if they have a house. Get to know them pretty well, and then decide if you want to affiliate…if you affiliate right away and can’t stand the new group, your only recourse would be to resign from the sorority…that would be a permanent solution to a temporary feeling!
Whatever you decide, best of luck to you!
Thanks for your input @Southlander‌ ! I think I’d want to get to know the sisters at the new chapter before committing to anything.
