I went to Chapman University for my freshman year and I was initiated into a sorority. I then transferred to a new school that does not have this sorority, so I disaffiliated. I know that technically with the rules once you have been initiated you can't ever join a different sorority, but I was wondering if there is ever any way around this. I found a thread a few days ago where someone had said that they had a sister in their sorority who had been able to be completely "released" from their sorority and able to rush again at their new school since their old sorority was not at their new school. I know this has been asked so many times, but since I saw a post about it happening I wanted to know if anyone else has ever heard of this being a thing? Should I try to see if I can be "released" and allowed to rush at my new school? I really loved being a part of a sisterhood, and I don't want to go through my entire college career without it, but it looks like I may not have any other option. Thanks!

It doesn’t hurt to try. Worst case scenario, you get caught and thrown into sorority jail. Given that a “sorority jail” is a ridiculous idea, I don’t really think you have anything to lose.

you should definitely ask the greek life people at your school

I transferred after freshman year, and was in a sorority at my previous school. The chapter I was at lost their charter, and my new school didn’t have that sorority, I talked to panhel and went through all the hoops and was able to rush again as a sophomore and joined a different sorority.

It did hell on my previous apparel :P

try asking this on greekchat.com, the people there are much more knowledgable than here.

Amandarin, did you just call NPC and explain the situation or did you talk to someone at your new school? that gives me so much hope!!

I called NPC and talked to people at my new school to explain the situation and have someone on my side/know the situation. It wasn’t the easiest but it wasn’t the toughest either. Good luck!

/: when I talked to NPC they just told me that the rule is once you’ve been initiated then you can’t ever join a different sorority… How did you get them to make an exception to that rule for you?
