I've read that successful journalists have degrees in fields other than journalism. I am planning on majoring in English, but I was wondering what other majors would be a good complement to English for journalism. I understand that this correlates a lot to whatever else interests me. I would like to work for a major news organization, such as Fox News or CNN, and report on not various things around the country and globe. Would pairing up History with English be beneficial? What other majors?

Perhaps political science or international relations...

There are plenty of successful journalists who have degrees in journalism, too. ;)

I second the political science/international relations suggestion. Then take a journalism/broadcasting minor so you get a basic grasp of ethics and style and become comfortable writing your two-minute broadcast material.
