Can anyone tell me how reputable this program is at UConn? Is the school newspaper big? I've read that the class sizes are generally small (after the introductory courses, I'm guessing) and around 16 students or less for the writing/editing courses, so that's good...about how many students are in the program?

I also have a big interest in sports writing. Are there any realistic opportunities for internships in Bristol (ESPN), NYC, and Boston?

Idk about you, but I wouldn’t go into journalism…it’s a dying breed…there are fewer and fewer journalism jobs each year, and more newspapers are moving online. If I were you, I’d go for sports management or something and then do your grad as journalism. Idk if UCONN offers sports managemnt.

Journalism isn’t just newspaper writing. And by newspaper I also mean online newspaper.

Journalism encompasses many versatile media facets including print, broadcast, and radio. Reporting and interviewing are also essential skills in the field to actually gather information. It’s not simply writing

Journalism is a much broader field to me than sports management. But I could also look into a management minor.

Oh, I don’t know if journalism is a dying breed at all. I agree there is a major shift to online news, but even they need writers. Plus the sports channels are growing. Every week it seems a new one pops up on my cable lineup. Sports is HUGE is this country and growing overseas, so we still need actual writers, photographers and interviewers out there making all those tv personalities and sports celebrities look good.

^^looks like we posted at the same time, haha, and said basically the same thing.
