I strted this thread at another forum, but there wasn't any response.

Anybody going to the symposium? Does it help with the college application, especially because I am going to start a JSA at my school?

Any advice about the symposium?

If it doesn't help out with college, why?

It had an application process, so it should be selective.

I'm interested in politics, so I'm going to the symposium

Well I was going to go to Stanford JSA this summer but I decided to avoid it. Yes you are correct there is a selection process however this does not mean its selective. Honestly many people will tell you that summer programs do not help in terms of college admissions, I mean honestly they don't choose you based on how intelligent you are, they just take your money. But honestly it is up to you, it is something that shows your passion and you should do it because you WANT to and not simply to impress the college adcoms. my advice to you depending on what grade you are is to attend the symposium and maybe attend the four week long program next year. JSA is a pretty good program. But if politics is truly your passion then show it..work with campaigns and stuff like that. Good luck.
