Judge my Common App essay about superstition

So I’m trying to think of a really unique and quirky Common APP essay.

My Idea: I want to talk about how superstition has affected my life. I would include things like an anecdote at the beginning showing my superstition, how it strikes an internal conflict (im not gonna say exactly what since I dont want my ideas being copied), and how I use superstition to achieve success, despite it being deemed a mere hoax by society.

What do you think about it? Please be honest, brutally honest please. My only concern is that it may be very similar to the idea of believing in a religion, which is kind of a cliche essay topic. I DO NOT want to talk about religion. Just about some quirky things that I do that help me.

In my book, seriously believing in superstition would be a strike against a student, but I imagine you can put a cute humorous spin on it if you’re a good writer.

OP, you have some mighty competitive colleges on your list and they may not be amused by relying on “superstition to achieve success.” It may even come across as obsessiveness. Or immaturity or some issue with your thinking. They may question your judgment in choosing this topic when the stakes are so high.

Only you know how this is written. If it’s one line of modest and funny self deprecation, maybe ok. But you need to understand what qualities top adcoms look for. This essay is for your admit review, not a hs teacher who knows you and your real skill sets. Don;t leave them imagining you carrying around a rabbut’s foot or knocking on wood before a test. Or worse. (And they care how students affect those around them.)

Superstition isn’t going to play well in a college admissions office.

The topic of “superstition” is an interesting and unique but I think it is risky for and essay for top colleges

could I PM anyone of u with my first 300 words of the essay and give u more detail about how it would go to see if my take on superstition is truly flawed? It wouldnt take much time at all. I would just send my first half of the essay and then tell you about how i would finish it and then you tell me if u think i can make it work

I’ll take a look

Cc hint :know who you are sending stuff to.

Also any topic can be good if you can pull it off correctly. It has to be unique, personal and interesting. How it relates to you being a college student and part of the community. I don’t want to learn about superstitions. I want to learn about you. If you go through life from one superstition to another then I don’t think that would make a good essay.
