Hello! Im currently wondering how many students get accepted to the Juilliard Pre College program as a violin major.
Is there an equal amount of acceptances per group or can there be one group with like 5 acceptances, 3 acceptances, and 2 acceptances?
Thank you!!
My understanding is that it has something to do with how many openings faculty members have in their studios.
It also has to do with graduating students and filling slots. They need to populate the orchestra, so if 10 violinists graduate, for example, they’ll need 10 more. So the number openings varies from year to year. Some studios might be all-precollege but many studios have mix of precollege all the way up to grad students.
@Phoebe_Apollo Thank you for your reply! I think my teacher has about 2 or 3 openings and she was also on the panel of judges and said I played very well. I wait for hopefully good news!
@glassharmonica Hello!! Thanks for your reply. I saw your thoughtful comments on similarly related posts. Does the faculty studio openings take into account as well? Or is it simply graduating class? I assume there may be a little bit more graduating students towards the “popular” instruments?? My teacher (who was on the panel of judges) said I played very well and musically… I’ll let you know how it goes!
Yes, studio openings are taken into account. Faculty members need to accept a student into their studio. Fingers crossed for you! Even if you don’t get in this year, try again-- it’s not uncommon to get in on the second attempt.
Thank you so much!! I hope to get in this year as the first, but there’s always next year.
Let us know how it goes! Rooting for you.
My kid is not on violin, the teacher he wanted had two slots open, and we just heard my kid was accepted. They were only gonna take two for that teacher.
