Thanks

From October of junior to October of senior year I improved a net 120 points.

M 780/770
CR 760/760
W 670/800 (8/10)

Total 2210/2330

As most people have already said here, practice is what makes the big difference. Get practice tests, do as many sections as you can; you get used to the kinds of questions they ask and how to answer. They pretty much always look for the same few things.

First try: 2000
Second try: 2190

First try: 720M 670CR 740W 8 essay(March 2009)
Second try: 710M 760CR 760W 8 essay(June 2009)
Third try: 770M 800CR 800W 10 essay (October 2009)
I didn’t prepare in any way, but I believe that all you have to do to improve your critical reading score a lot is to actually read. And don’t make stupid mistakes in math. Also, your essay topic makes a load of difference. My first essay was probably in actuality the best, but my last(poorly written) essay was about Hamlet, which may have sounded impressive to the readers even though I had no idea what I was talking about.

First Test: 700M 700CR (March 2004)
Second Test: 800M 800CR 770W 12 essay (November 2009)

Net Increase: 200 points (M + CR only)

I prepared a hell of a lot more the first time than the second. I actually ditched studying the night before the test (as well as many other nights I should have been studying) to go hang with my girlfriend. Hurrah for distractions!

I wrote my essay on Star Trek. Which was also the topic of one of my AP Lang. essays. Which was also . . . you get the trend ;).

From May to October: 2190 > 2360
CR: 800 > 780
M: 670 > 800
WR: 720 > 780

I literally didn’t do anything in between… Just felt relaxed about the test the second time because I knew that if I didn’t do better, I had decent scores already. Also it was more reassuring to already know the whole SAT routine with the breaks and timing and everything. ALSO the second time we didn’t have the effing marching band playing outside the window >.<

I already took my first SAT (nov) so PSAT wouldn’t really matter… but I still wanna know if I made the national merit scholarship thing…
Does anyone know ?

October 2008:
M: 670
CR: 730
W: 770 (9 essay)

November 2009:
M: 780
CR: 800
W: 800 (12 essay)

hmm…don’t know how that happened. the first time i took an expensive class, second time, i kindof just went in there and winged it. haha.

January 2008: 2110
CR: 770
Math: 690
Writing: 650

May 208: 2300
CR: 800
Math: 700
Writing: 800

So, most of the jump was in Writing. I made the exact same jump on the PSAT, from a 65 in 10th grade to an 80 in 11th, so I knew that the 650 in January could be dramatically increased with little or no prep.

I got an 1840 the first time (560W, 640CR, 640M) and then jumped to a 2000 second time (700M, 710W, 590CR) and then the third time I went up to a 2050 (780W, 620CR, 640M.) I’ve been frazzled each time I took it, but the first time I was really screwed over.

January 2009: 2080

CR: 750

Math: 710

Writing: 620

November 2009: 2320

CR: 800

Math: 800

Writing: 720

I’m not really sure WHY I did so badly the first time; from my ACT score, I was expecting somewhere around 2300.

I had a decent jump too.

June, 2008 - 1990

Critical Reading 630

Math 720

Writing 640

What was odd though was that i prepped a little bit for the first one, but was totally preoccupied when i was taking the second one. I had a swim meet to walk over to literally right after the test. I probably just overthought the first one and let my nerves take over.
