While being nine months older certainly helped my reading skills, I definitely benefited from the following:

Go through a CR workbook (I used Kaplan) and do all the practice sets.

Do an official CB practice test AT LEAST once or twice a week. If you're cramming, do one per day.

Look up any words you don't know on the practice exams and burn them into your memory.

Read through the passage once, really understand what's going on, then answer the questions.

If anyone has anymore questions, feel absolutely free to PM me.

^How do you go about really understanding what's going on in the passage?

What questions do you ask yourself while reading?

What are you looking for when you are reading?

How do you tackle the questions?

Do you write short notes in the margins?

BTW, isn't Kaplan really inaccurate?

Thanks!

What questions do you ask yourself while reading?

Nothing, let the SAT ask the questions. Just understand what's going on.

What are you looking for when you are reading?
- Main ideas, viewpoints of the author(s), themes, etc.

*How do you tackle the questions? *
- I read the passage then I answer the questions. I refer back to the passage as needed.

Do you write short notes in the margins?
- No. I feel it wastes time.

BTW, isn't Kaplan really inaccurate?
- I firmly believe that SAT prep is just getting better at your fundamental skills. Any reading practice helps you become a better reader, and that's the point. If you're a good reader, you can do well. It doesn't matter how "accurate" the practice questions are. The idea is to get comfortable reading and answering any given question.

^Thanks! Do you think it's possible to raise my 680 CR to 730ish before the June 7th SAT? I almost always get all the SCs right but the passages sometimes baffle me.

i went from a 1190/2400 to a 2290/2400
