Barron’s is always overpreparation.

My practice test today:

CR: 600-660 (avg 630) <— Horrible, again.
M: 660-720 (avg 690) <— Messed up too many times. Facepalm.
W: 660-790 (avg 725) <— Sad. Scored my essay an 8 (again, worst-case scenario). Ugh.

I’m not happy. :(

Total: 1920-2170 (avg 2045).

Well, at least I improved a teeny bit.
I hope the real deal is easier.

@Feed, those aren’t really bad. I think if you take a practice for each of the sections and learn from your mistakes, you should be fine.

As for my practice test on saturday.

Test: May 2006

CR: 750 (missed 5) <==Amazing score considering I’ve been missing 11 and getting 660-680. I dunno how this happened.

M: 800 (missed 1) <==First time I didn’t really know how to do a question, but I figured it out later. Hopefully, I won’t get ■■■■■■■■ hard questions on test day.

W: 750-790 (missed 1) <==Essay was ranged from 9-10. I thought I wrote a pretty good essay for once in my life. Amazing as well considering I’ve been getting 4 MC wrong.

Total: 2300-2340

Overall, this has been amazing.

Possible Factors: I ate Strawberry Poptarts in the morningO_O and Chocolate during break. Also, I had an attitude of not really caring and worrying, but I didn’t focus really really hard.
In addition, I did a practice test section for each section every day during the last week and also wrote an essay every morning. I also brought Gruber’s root word list and other top SAT vocabulary list to school and looked over them when I wasn’t busy. I think what worked for me is just being positive and thinking that I can definitely dominate the test and realize that the questions are really easy and just don’t overthink or doubt yourself too much.
This is a dramatic improvement.

BTW, for CR, I like took 3 to 4 passages each night timing myself and cutting my time by 1 minute. I think CR just takes loads of practice. Also, I reviewed what I missed, why I missed, and how I to make sure I never get it wrong again.

Here’s some more advice if people need it.

Writing MC: Parallelism seems to be test alot on the SAT, espicially for the hard questions. So if your missing hard MC questions, it most likely has something to do with parallelism. And of course, Subjective-Verb Agreement is another commonly tested concept.

Math: What people need to realize is that the SAT Math is not like their regular, ordinary school math exams. Collegeboard is out to trick you. If a question near the end of the section seems too easy to be true, it most likely is. Go back and reread it and seem if you missed out on anything.

Also, Math questions can be solved by using basic knowledge of what you know math. So if you have trouble then go master the basics and memorize some formulas. To really ace the Math section, you need logic and reasoning.

Baah…I’m too tired to go on…maybe another day.

^ Thanks for the advice :D

Really helps :)

imo it’s the earlier questions which are harder, because since they’re the easier questions, people tend to overlook them and don’t spend enough time on them. But for the harder ones, it’s either you know it or you don’t and if you do, then you’ll spend a good amount of time on them…dunno if what i just wrote made any sense at all but yeah lol it’s usually the easier ones that i overlook and get wrong.

But Quicksandslowly…nicely done 2340!!!

yeah thank you. Im gonna apply the writing an essay a day thing for my chemistry.

@Quicksandslowly, thanks for the kind words and suggestions. Really helpful. ![]()
Quite excellent tips up there.

Just to add to his/her comments about writing, on the Sentence Error questions, ALWAYS ALWAYS circle the following things:
- Subject
- Verb
- Pronoun
- Antecedent

Trust me, it helps a lot.
Also, strike out any prepositional phrases. The SAT’s purpose is to confuse you with long phrases between the subject and the verb (as with pronoun-antecedent). Really raised my Writing Score. :)

would you say that NONE of the errors are within a prep. phrase?

Yes, (unless it’s underlined)… then of course take a look at it.

hrmm. interesting. I’ve never even given that a single thought.

hey what did you get on your sat, jumpngo??

*May 2008 SAT:
660: CR
640: M
600: W
8 Essay *

He got a 1900.

oo. I have stalkers. Nice. I’ll be back this summer! You can count on it. I’m getting my 2100 ish

lol naw I was just intrigued after reading this topic so I looked at your old posts.

I never think about writing. I got a 670 on it so I’m not concerned about it being bad, but yeah I mainly focus on CR and Math. You have a 1300, which is good enough I think. I also got a 1900, but my CR+M aren’t as high as yours, though my math is.

Keep at it dude! You’ll get there :)

ya bro keep at it.

Who are you trying to impress by posting this stuff on CC? Stop showing off, especially since your 1900 isnt anything to brag about. Just post this in a Word Document or something, seriously. No one can help you study for the SAT so our comments on your “practice” shouldnt matter. You think your better than us? I think your just seeking attention, and apparently you have suceeded.

^ You need to calm down. Just don’t open the topic if you don’t want to read it.
