Jumpngo's SAT prep journal

@jumpngo - I only have 1 thing to share (I didn’t go through this whole thread)…

Keep practicing.
And just to encourage you, last time I scored lower than the 2000 mark on all my practice tests (Heck, I even got a 1650 on one of them!!! >_<). I only got one 1970 score, and you know what? I scored a 2000+ on my March exam.

:)

So, hang in there!
Your 2000+ goal is very much in reach. ;)

Im trying to break the 2000 point as well. I’ve taken a few practice test and my range is around 1800-1900 but my score suffers mostly from the CR part which I could barely score above a mid 500 (I know reeeeeeally sad :().

Good luck on reaching your goal you’re almost there…and for me lol thats a whole different story

thanks santa for the encouragement. My journal for this thread is temporarily down. Too much prep/things to do and too little time before May. I’ll post after wards and prolly over the summer while i prep up for the october exam.

if anyone still reads this, i took another full practice test today (excluding essay of course =]); I didn’t do too hott. My CR goal was pretty close though, I only missed 1 in one of the sections, but then I ended up getting my ass kicked in the 2nd CR section.

CR (640): missed 1/ Missed 7/ missed 4 (only missed 3 in SC)
Math (650)
Writing (a/b a 680 avg)

So Around a 1970. Hrmm. THats not TOO bad I guess.. but I really want to miss less in my CR section. This round in math, I was unable to answer like 4, and i accidently ommited 1 CR question which i could’ve got right. I think i could’ve gotten a high 1900 maybe 2000, but in real test conditions, we’ll see..

I’m taking another one tmr, will do a quick update. Until then

(I wonder if this is against the journal rules… but meh…)

I took a practice test today as well.
CR: 580-640 (avg 610) <— Horrible. I got raped.
M: 610-670 (avg 640) <— Horrible. I am stupid.
W: 720-800 (avg 760) <— Acceptable. I actually only missed 1 question on both the Writing sections but I graded my essay a low 8 (worst-case scenario). So, I’m kind of happy about this. :)

Total: 1910-2110 (avg 2010). <— Need more practice.

I’m also taking another test tomorrow. Sigh.

well it is MY journal, but its cool. I’m taking another one tmr too. damn, you own at writing. any tips? And’ don’t talk or type negative or you will become those things. We are what we say we are. And where are you trying to go for college Feed

Cool, yea, it’s sort of comforting to share practice test scores. :)

This is the first time I’ve scored this high on Writing.
Otherwise I get around 600+.

I really have no tips except practice, practice and practice.
Today, I sat down and learned all the grammatical errors they test on the SAT. Then I did practice questions and I didn’t just ‘identify’ the error, but I also ‘fixed’ it. So it sort of became a breeze to just recognize the error. :)

Sorry, it helps me to scold myself. Then I try harder, but if you say so. (It’s your journal, after all! ;))

Um, I have no idea, really. I’m a sophomore right now, and I only came to the US last year… I wanna do something scientific though.
I just wanna get the SAT out of the way.

kool ure back. Jumpngo, after im done with SAT chem and AP chem, ill start my own SAT preperation for the november or december exam… I ll probably do the same thing. One question, when prepping, do u guys bother with the essay? Also, when u take under timed conditions, u sit at a desk not on a bed right? Just curious.

^ I always do the essay. I even practice for the essay separately and write on past topics without actually taking a whole practice test.

And it depends how my legs feel. (lol)
Sometimes I take it on the bed, sometimes on the floor, and sometimes on the table.
My best scores have been on the table (if that helps).

I try to do everything I can to mimic the test conditions. Despite the essay. I think I’m goign to do that this last week, just write. No more practice tests, etc. Wow Feed, your a big nerd, only came to U.S. last year, and you’re a sophomore. You’re good to go.

Jumpngo, I’m going to start my practice test today around noon in a secluded room with a timer, and everything. FUN! ^___^

I think you should do the essay practice, but don’t do it on like the last two days. During that time, think of flexible examples… literary and historical that you can use on a number of topics (if you know what I mean… ) <— That’s what I’m gonna do.

I’m not a big nerd, although I would love to be one! I’m just average… maybe work a teeny weeny bit harder than the average American kid, lol.
Are you a junior? Senior?

I’m in the same boat as you are. I’m a junior. Actually, I think i embraced my nerdiness this school year-- full on. Anyways, I know how to enjoy life, but I also know when I need to take things seriously, for example this SAT;oiawje;foijaw;eoifja;weoifj;waeijf. Sigh…

jumpngo, i took another pratice test yesterday, and i felt more confident, i raised my score by 210 points lol, it was my highest score so far. im going to review my mistakes from all the 3 pratice tests i’ve taken so far. then im going to take another one later today. soo much fun kiddd

nice, tell me how that goes. What area did you raise your points? And what were your other scores, etc?

Congrats you reached your goal!!! Yeah im taking a practice test today as well i think this might be the last one ima take before i start preping for the essay portion and the long passage CR individually. So far my average is:
700 math (most things i get wrong are careless mistakes)
550 CR (i know REALLY SAD…no excuses i just suck)
650 Writing (i never do the essay i just give myself an 8 for it)

Also another thing, how do you guys do the double long passage CR section? I usually run out of time on those any advice?

lol yeah same, i give myself a 10 though. But i’ma start to do the essay this week. FOr some reason, i’m better at the double long ones , than the regular big ones. For CR, i’ve just been reading a lot. I take everything that requires reading as preparation for the SAT. For example, the required readings in english class, etc, etc, blogs, etc. And reading isn’t second nature to me YET, but i am a lot more comfortable with it. I’m not afraid of any of the sections anymore; it used to be CR. Now I’m just afraid that I’ll get some hard ass passage and ■■■■■■■■ math that I’ve never seen before. Thats what i’m afraid of.

@ voodoo: are those the averages of all your tests? or just one test?

those are my averages, but i dont mean the CR section with the double passages, i meant the one with 2 long single passages…i have a hard time finishing those on time.

I just took a practice test in the Barrons book and did pretty bad :/

CR- 530
Math- 680
Writing- 620

I think I’m going to take one more before next week’s exam and hopefully I do better.

well isnt Barrons practice supposed to be harder than the actual thing?

^ i hope so…i got destoryed on the first math and writing section, but man none of the strategies are working for me for CR!!! I mean i do all right on the vocab section but on the Read Comp i just get a crapload wrong…man wat am i going to do lol i need to raise my CR score by 100 by next week T.T
