June 12th ACT, Official Reading Thread

Oh yeah! I am fairly certain that I remember this…

The effects that the borrows had on the ecosystem include all of the following except:
-creating isolated areas of packed land (this was the answer)
-more water flow through areas (or something)
-fertilization for plants or something
-provide homes for other animals

I honestly do NOT remember that question haha. Oh, that is bad…

(THIS TOPIC WAS MUCH EARLIER BUT COLLEGE CONFIDENTIAL WONT LET ME REPLY TO INDIVIDUAL POSTS!!)I have to agree with NewAccount even though it was a strange question. First off, just because his weight wasn’t mentioned in the passage doesn’t mean it wasn’t implied. That’s what literature is about- not everything is stated exactly as it is meant. And I interpreted his comment just as a side joke about how he had to feed his kids more treats so as not to eat them himself. So, in that sense it does make sense to choose the answer about the weight. Of course, I can’t be absolutely sure, but that was my initial impression when I read that part. And i know this seemed like the obvious “trap” answer, so it is probably wrong, but that is how i interpreted it. this seems like the only one i got wrong.

No for the prairie dog last question about the young it was they stay underground for a few months NOT nine months
The passage said the young were born in the spring and emerged to the surface around June so that indicates a few months

Also in the fire water passage was the first event that occurred the 10 year plan to revitalize the city?

^i thought it was the “fire something installation”? the presentation by barnby

No, it was most definitely the 10-year plan. That was an option I’m quite sure. And someone posted the article earlier so you can go back at look if you’d like.

It was the plan.

Oh, yeah for the question about the dad saying “got to lose weight”. I put C (I think) about not feeding the kids too much because they had work the next day (painting)-- He really wanted them to paint! lol

^that’s what i put.

Wait, did he actually say got to lose weight? What were the options again?

Like
a. He quietly told himself that he needed to lose weight
b. he was a character in the story
c. he told his kids to not eat as much because they had work the next day (something along those lines, I don’t remember)
d. I forgot the last option

He said “gotta get in shape”

nevermind i think we’re talkign about two different things.

Oh wait, no we are talking about the same thing I think.

Hahaha. Dude, are you serious??

WOW. Yeah, your right, we shouldn’t let the Roadies have that passage because they live there. Maybe Indian people shouldn’t have that first passage either, because that would be unfair to the rest of us…

I don’t like getting in arguments over the internet, but you truly are an imbecile.

but it WASNT C because someone else said earlier that the answer was something about testing his treats to the kids ; i think that was option D.

It had nothing to do with weight… that would imply a completely shifted focus of the passage. Since the sentence was so early on, it would set up the rest of the passage, and since weight wasn’t mentioned elsewhere, the answer most likely wouldn’t be that. I think you guys might be overanalyzing it…

Like
a. He quietly told himself that he needed to lose weight
b. he was a character in the story
c. he told his kids to not eat as much because they had work the next day (something along those lines, I don’t remember)
d. I forgot the last option

theblusrstillblu : we’re not saying that. We’re saying that it could have been C, the fact that the kids had to work the next day. In fact, i don’t remember the testing out the treats option even being an option.

b was that he was trying the treats out on his kids

^are you sure it wasn’t C?

Oh, what did you guys put on the Edison passage about what he thought about theoretical scientists or something?
I put that Edison thought the scientists weren’t using their knowledge to help humans, something along those lines.

As for the treats one, I put that the father was testing the treats with his kids.
