June 2008 - Chemistry

What were the possible choices? Odds are, I put +6.

And I think I want a lenient curve more than anyone. I omitted a ridiculous amount of questions.

ya i omitted like 10, bye bye 800 already.. and i got like 8 wrong for sure already.. probably like 12-13 in total, i hope thats 700+

I omitted 13, with like 6-7 wrong, which comes out to like a 720-730. You'll be fine.

I've heard that the curves are predetermined, so they don't take into account the results of the tests. Does anyone know if this is true?

sorry if i misunderstood, but a -20 is still above a 700?

and yeah, ive heard that about curves as well. they may tweak it a little, but it by and large doesnt change (as ive heard)

^^Really?? -20 is still above 700?? You just made my day!!!

Hell yeah.

a -20 is not over a 700 hate to break it to you.

the chem curve is MUCH harsher than the physics curve.

in fact -20(raw score... if you're not including the guessing penalty) would probably be around a 680 .... definitely not a 700 though.

if -20 wasn't including the penalty then you would have like a 650 or so.

"wow.. im cancelling a possible 760. im crazy."

Kim, if you're in the class of '10.. you don't have to, since the collegeboard lets '10 show only the best scores.

wow u guys are such noobs i got a 800 on it last year by hacking it
...
just look at the black lines on the right of the test
duh

Equilibrium: Really? I didn't know about that....

what about me? i really need this if i'm going to get into harvard
10 right = 800? good curve?

Nope you can get like 4 wrong and get an 800. I got an 800 I May and I was fairly certain I got 0 wrong

Hey, guys, I am taking the SAT Subject Test in Chemistry in October and I am trying really hard to study for it. What book do you believe was most effective in studying for the SAT?

I am using Princeton Review SAT Chemistry currently. Some have suggested PR for AP Chem, Spark notes, and Barron's. What do you think? Any advice, comments, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

I hardly studied, which may be a reason for my projected low score....

The curve for chemistry is much lenient than many believe. It is similar to the Math IIC curve. The already-released test on College Board Subject Test Book does not represent the recent curve for SAT Chemistry.

-6~7 = 800

^ ya so that curve is more like the PR curve.

@Neineibu

Where did you get this info from?

ballin: I used PR and felt pretty prepared for the test, though I won't swear by it til I see my score...

If you took the PR practice tests, you would know that the Real thing was a bit tougher than the PR tests.... And PR tends to be harder than CB. So its safe to say -4 to -6 should give you 800
