June 2009 SAT Writing!

After taking courses of writing, _____ or something

i wasn’t really sure

taking a course of writing

i just remember the course of writing being there

are you guys sure it was “courses of” though? i really don’t remember that at ALL

@specta - is the the old people question?

i’m positive it said courses of

what i wasn’t sure of was whether or not it was a suitable preposition

i dont really either…

i remember going like this

several key club members, now in their eighties are writing stories about what life was like long ago…or something like that haha

i put no error though

it said after a course of writing somewhere after in their eighties

is the “courses of” question the same question as the old people question?

I think I put no error for the old men, too. :x

Yes courses of was in the old people question

I thought it should have said courses in because i’m not familiar with the phrase courses of

well cant u say “courses of study”?

You can say that.

A course of is idiomatically correct. “You are on a course of disaster.” But then again, course in is also correct. “You are taking that course in school.”

well if “courses of” works, doesnt it not matter whether “courses in” works?

Honestly – Both of them sound stupid in the sentence. “Writing courses” would be best.

i said that was right also, but to be fair, you can’t really say “Courses of” when talking about subjects/courses, can you? You’re taking a course IN a subject, not OF a subject

look at this

[Course of English Undefiled - Article Preview - The New York Times](http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9F0DE0DF1E39E133A25751C1A9679D946395D6CF)

not sure if that helps?

haha…hopefully in 1922 people spoke the same as they do today

That’s really interesting. But that’s also written in 1922. And REALLY advanced for CB!

You are right. You can’t say “I am taking a course of history.” That just sounds blatantly wrong.

is an 800 possible w/ a 8 essay and 0 grammar wrong?

I don’t think so… That might be cutting it really close.

I know that on one test an 8 essay with a -1 yielded a 790, though.

btw, was this test considered easy or hard in terms of curve? (in your opinions lol). on jan test, i got one wrong and had a 76 on MC.
