***JUNE 2015 ACT DISCUSSION THREAD***

thanks, I wish more people would give there input though…

I don’t know man. 2150 on the SAT is crazy good; you’re score is definitely sufficient for top colleges, but if you think you’ll do better on the ACT then go for it.

@ArmandoB 2150 isn’t “crazy good”, lol. For top schools a 2250 should be the aim.

@outlooker Please stop being negative. A 2150 is a dang good score in the 97th percentile. Yes, a higher score would do him benefits for top schools but still I would definitely say his score is crazy good seeing as only 3% of test takers scored higher than him. This thread was created for diffusing ideas and studying techniques for this test not instilling doubt in test takers.

I got a 31 on the past January test, or was it february shrug I used the Barron’s 36 to prep, and I credit it fully for my 34 reading score and 11 essay. I would definitely use it if you are struggling in english. It gives a lot of grammar rules and essay tips. Can someone suggest some resources for the math. It was my lowest score, (28) and I know if I can get that up, I will be golden. Thanks to anyone!

@StudentRunner how did it help you with reading

Guys is the essay format changing in June or September??

@mithuun15 Barron’s 36 is really helpful for English. I used it and got a 35 in English. @rockstarraj No the essay will change in September

@outlooker i know but i desperately need help in reading… no matter what i try nothing works. i got private tutoring and everything and i went down a point. Im starting to think theres just nothing i can do about it

Does anyone know any cons of taking it one last time on the september date of senior year?

@mithuun15 Reading is definitely hard to improve upon. What score do you have in reading? I used to get a 28 in reading but I improved it up to a 34

Slimman131, yes, especially since you almost got C27 in April. Practice. You’re totally within reach of C28!

Is anyone still waiting for their April multiple choice scores? Still haven’t received them and starting to go crazy. Got the February results in less than 2 weeks.

Last free ACT test I can take :(. Hope that my scores this time improved like the way my 2nd SAT test did.

@mithuun15 there is no harm in taking the September ACT as a senior. As a matter of fact, for many of my students it is the test their most successful on.

Use the summer to prep.

You cannot INTERPRET on the Reading test. This is the OPPOSITE what you have been taught to do in high school and the questions make it look like they want your opinion on the “best” answer. They don’t!!! There is only ONE right answer based on the passage. You CANNOT add or subtract information from what is in the passage. All that matters is what is DIRECTLY in the text. Examples: Just because someone is “happy” does not mean they are “excited.” If someone is “sad” they are not “depressed.”

So what is this general consensus?

Trying to order the books asap.

@Gatortristan Princeton Review is pretty good

I’m a student that truly struggles with standardized tests (whether it be the PSAT, SAT or ACT). I feel like that is what will keep me out of a top tier school. I don’t understand why I struggle so bad compared to my peers and the people that post here because I do feel as if I am “academically conditioned”. I took the test in April as a “test run” with barely any studying (didn’t study mostly due to the fact that I was involved with school, 6 Ap’s ) and got a 25 with a 10 on the writing section. I just took a practice test in the red book and got a 27. Can anyone give me any tips or any advice on how I can boost myself in the 30’s? I am prepared to commit myself for the next month and over the summer to improving

@outlooker PR is good for the entire test or just a specific section like barrons?

I think PR is great for the whole test
