***JUNE 2015 ACT DISCUSSION THREAD***

To all who need to improve on their reading and science reasoning scores. All I have to say is to continue taking tests every possible chance that you have. I used to be horrible at the Reading section (scoring in the low 18s) but I can now proudly say that I have been reaching around the 30’s on it. Just continue taking practice tests and I promise all that you will get there.

And for Math and English, definitely the Barron’s 36.

For the Reading section, do you recommend taking the same test over and over again until you get a perfect score (like the suggestion above for the English section) or should I take a different test every time?

@Zavalon I may not be the greatest person to ask (I usually score around in the 29-31 range) but I suggest you don’t do that for the Reading Section. The reason it works for English is because it helps you really understand grammar and stuff. For Reading, you’re bound to say “oh I knew that” when you check your answers. Hindsight bias prevails much more profoundly when it comes to checking answers on the Reading Section. Just take as many practice sections as possible. Good luck

Repost: Message me if you need practice tests. I have a bunch of really good ones to share with everyone.

Has anybody received the TIR from the April ACT in the mail?

@Zavalon Learn what you got wrong on the current test, then move on to another one keeping in mind the ones you got wrong so you know what to do.

@outlooker (about dual passages): It seems to be quite the recurring theme, so I’d reckon it’s a given now. It’s on the ACT website and now I’m pretty much expecting it when I take it. Threw me for a curve when I first saw it though (even though it could be argued it’s easier than SAT’s double passages since it’s more focused, even explaining which questions mention which passages).

@asquared2016: Not yet. Sadly, I don’t think these will come until after the June sitting, unfortunately.

Slightly under the three-week mark, it looks like. Once finals clear off, if they haven’t already, there will be more time to prep. Good luck to everyone!

Anyone know the difference between the first and second editions of Barron’s ACT 36, and the difference between those and Barron’s ACT. I will use the book mainly for English, but possibly for reading and writing. I do not need any help in Math and Science.

dude why the hell are you unhappy with a 33??? that’s an amazing score…

@wiseguy98 A 33 isn’t that impressive IMO.

just aiming for a 32 for my first test good luck @outlooker

I took the March state test and didn’t do very well. Is it realistic to try and raise my score 6+ for June?

@letmeseetheworld it is definitely possible if you put in the effort. Since school is out I would recommend taking as many real act tests as you can, and review the questions you get incorrect. Try to reduce the time by five minutes on each section if you can, so you can be additionally prepared for anything that may happen at the real test.

@Andre3200 I’ve been practicing way more just wanted to know how realistic that was. Friday is my last day thankfully.

Hey guys I’m also taking the test in June. But I haven’t had a chance to study at all because I have a 2 week school exam coming up. :frowning:

@outlooker I could use some of those practice exams you offered! ^:)^

Quick! My reading and science sections are outliers compared to my English and math scores, should I study English and math more to get them in the higher 30s or reading and science to get them to a 25-28 more for just the sake of a higher score? (1st time taking it btw)

Does anyone know what books I should use to improve my reading and science sections? I haven’t gone higher that a 24 on reading or science sections ( i know I’m really bad at that). Also, I’m using the Red ACT book and i have the Mcgrawhill ones. Can you guys recommend me some books that are usually harder than the actual tests?
