You guys should check out Up your score: underground act, something like that. The dialogue is annoying and they make bad attempts at trying to be funny but it’s very easy to read and they give some good tips.
Finally got barons 36 book and the english section is really helping!!
I need help on time management and math. I need to get like five more questions right on math to get the score I’m aiming for.
@letmeseetheworld Have you reviewed all of the topics? I’m doing much better in math after I had my school’s math exam last week LOL! :)>- The Barron’s ACT says you should do the first 30 questions in 25 minutes and the last 30 questions in 35 minutes, so maybe try that strategy???
@kuriosmind No you’re right, I need to review more topics. I usually get the same kinds of questions wrong.
Where can I find explanations to old ACT tests that aren’t in the red book.
@slimman131 learn everything you can about the questions you can’t answer. It will help you very much to know those concepts. but don’t just know how to solve the problem, learn the general stuff about it. For example, if it talks about sin(x) = pi/2, look up trigonometric functions and trigonometric graphs to get a general meaning of what the question talks about. The ACT will not always base their questions on that one question that you did not know, they will always make a question about the topic that the question is on.
Well, we have only 1 WEEK LEFT! What are you guys doing to prepare right now?
I thought of a challenge if anyone else wants to give this a shot.
As we wind down to our final week, how about taking one whole practice test each day, under the time constraints and other similar testing conditions in order to really prep and get used to what we’ll go through next Saturday. For example, switch to pencil if you’re like me and always use pen, layout your test materials on your desk like you would on test day etc. Maybe even wake up and start at 8 like you would on test day. I understand the test is pretty long and most of us don’t have that much time to spare everyday but I figured it might be interesting to try. You don’t even have to do that everyday. Maybe just try it out with three or two practice tests. It would be an interesting way to really pick up on last minute things you didn’t realize were a problem for you.
Just an idea.
@letmeseetheworld That is exactly what I have been doing for the past two weeks, except I start at 9, and occasionally I will take two a day, one in the morning, one in the evening. I have seen drastic score improvements in English.
Anyone who has taken the April test, how did you understand the science passages? I’m taking the June test and i’m scared i won’t be able to understand the concepts like i couldn’t during the April test.
Is the Real ACT Boom (Red Book) hard or easier than the actual test?
I found it easier than the April test, but that’s just me. The red book is supposed to be the most accurate thing out there, and people have seen a lot of consistency between their practice test scores on that and the real test scores. Hope this helps
The Red Book has waaaaay easier Math. Anyone got tips for he science section?
@letmeseetheworld One of the best ways to prepare is definitely practice. I’m up for the challenge! We can all even post our progress here to keep each other motivated
Last time I took the ACT, I got 29C 32E 34M 24R 27S. Should I focus on raising my English and Math scores to 36 or should I focus on raising my Reading and Science scores? I’ve been studying reading the whole time but the score hasn’t improved much, if any at all.
@asappebble Sounds great I’ll start tomorrow
@letmeseetheworld I’ll try it out as well a practice test a day it is! Also going through Barrons ACT 36 and praying I get a 30+.
What practice tests are you guys using other than the real act and past act ones?
PR 1296 Questions, McGraw Hill 10 practice tests and Gruber’s ACT @SSick456
